39. Nebelhorn-Trophy 2007

Congrats to Wester & Barantsev for doing so well on their first international event! It's a great start to the season for them!

Who's idea was this two seperate CD thing? What a joke. It eliminates the point of the CD completely. Hopefully this never happens in a major competition.

I would argue that there hasn't been any point to the CD in about 15 years; they should just eliminate the darn things entirely, ESPECIALLY if they're going to use them for stupid "innovations" such as this one..... I sense that $peedy's been trying to come up with "ideas" again.......

I know compulsories are a bit boring to watch, but I like them. I'll agree with you though, either keep them the way they are or get rid of them altoghether. "Innovations" like the two CD one just don't work, especially since each CD scores somewhat differently and the maximum number of points that a team can get tends to vary.

I would be disappointed to see the compulsories eliminated. It is the one spot to compare apples to apples. I am guessing it is a good spot for skaters to learn edges, turns, posture and partnering.

Your point is taken -- however, by the time they get to the Senior level, these couples should be fairly proficient at those things already. IMO, one of the reasons why Dance standings never moved pre-CoP (1-1-1, 2-2-2, 3-3-3, 4-4-4, and so on) was because an obscenely high percentage of the judges did not have a background in Dance and did NOT know what to look for in the compulsories, so they'd put the couples in some fairly pre-ordained order from the start and just go with it. I don't think they had any more to do with the overall picture than the school figures did in singles, and like the figures, they should be fazed out. That, however, won't happen as long as the ISU can get money from people who wish to see them -- and there is admittedly a large enough number of people who do, that the CD won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
