Ladies LP

I don't think Joannie beating Mao on PCS was undeserved. This year, Mao's long program does really nothing for her. And it's choregraphically empty. I don't think she really feels that particular piece of music either.

Just because someone has the potential to be better in the PCS department and has been better in the past, doesn't mean they are better at that peformance.

Mao is putting way to many eggs in the 3 axel basket. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling her base value was higher last year when she was attempting one 3axel and 2 3/3's. Mao needs to rediscover the 3/3, to be quite frank, she didn't even attempt one in the long program, she hasn't made a real credible attempt of one in the long this year... (sigh)

ITA. I just find that Mao is a nice girl skating to a pretty piece of music but she's not skating with the music and using it to her advantage. I found both of her programs this season to be a tad on the boring side. She really needs to work at rotating the second jump in her combos! I know a loop on the end probably brings more points if it's rotated, but I think a toe would be easier and more consistent.

She was his girlfriend for a time, after she split with Stephane. Don't know if she still is, though.
Wow Carolina dated Stephane *and* Verner? I did know she and Verner got along extremely well. Funny how all these elite skaters get romantically involved with each other. The Van der Perren couple, Brian and Valentina (though I think they broke up), Evan and Tanith (but they're both Americans); are there any more? Probably...

Or... 2 3A & 2 3-3. It's possible. I don't get why YuNa KiM doesn't put 3lz-3t =x

Because the 3lutz-3t doesn't give her a higher base value than a 2axel/3toe. She said though that she may do the 3lutz/3toe next year. I love the way that Yu-na flies into her 3/3.

What I think Mao has been doing the whole season was trying new things. I think I read somewhere her saying that next year "there will be no time to make changes and try out new jump layouts".
As we all could see it didn't really pay off this year, but maybe it will next. I'm quite sure this 4th place finish will be a great learing experience (and wake up call) for Mao. I hope she can overcome everything what's bothering her and she'll come back stronger than ever next season.

No she's dating a fellow Italian athlete, I think he's a runner or a speed-walker or something, but he won gold in Beijing. They're a big couple in the Italian media, I think.

The greatest US skater of all time would probably be Kristy, who not only did all triples, but had triple triple combos in '92.

Did Kristi have a Salchow?

Alissa's program could have been shown by NBC.

The agreement between NBC, ISU/USFSA, and Universal Sports prohibted NBC from showing it. Universal Sports had exclusive rights to the part of the competition before the NBC coverage began.

Seems I'm the only one that didn't like Yu-Na performance.

Imagine that. ;)

I like Miki Ando's performance the best.

It is kind of ironic that in the free skate alone, Alissa got 8th and Rachael 5th. 8 + 5 = 13.

Still, I am happy that Alissa skated so well.

Yes, Kristi had a salchow. It gave her fits from time to time, but she almost always put it in the program. If my memory is right, 1992 Nationals was a great one.

I got crashed off the boards at about page 49 last night and from the looks of some comments, I'm glad I did. I don't think I will trouble to catch up. I just wanted to pop back and say thank you. Thanks to all of you for a very pleasant few days.

Things are so tight that I didn't subscribe to the other board this year and a lot of my friends are in L. A. at Worlds in person. Now I'm glad things worked out as they did. I found the Universal feed, which worked just great for me and I found these discussions which I enjoyed so much more than......

No big no no rules about finding feeds and cheering and refreshing (although I wondered if the whole board crashed last night). The vast majority of the discussion was pleasant, fun, and joyful. I love to watch skating and I love to watch it with those who also love it. Thanks to all of you - especially those who wanted to get mad, and didn't.

I seem to remember it giving her a fit in her Olympic long program. I think Kristi is a great jumper but not the best jumper, imo of course.

Yes, you're right. It's part of Tatiana's strategy to get Mao's endurance up for the Olympics. I believe Mao has the intention of doing 2 3As and she's doing them now to become comfortable with it. Mao looked as if she had already peaked yesterday.

Did Kristi have a Salchow?

Yes, she landed it in her 1992 Nationals. The salchow was an issue of timing as a result of doing the throw triple salchow. Like A.H. Black said, she always included it whether she knew she was going to land it or not.

At the Olympics, she doubled the Salchow and fell(?) or put her hand down on the triple loop.

Me too! She was amazing. I really will make a Miki-banner, my first ladies banner ever...

I think there is an interesting and special quality to her, that has nothing to do with Asada's lyrical grace or Kim's popular powerful-musical style.

it is very ironic. If Alissa had skated a clea short program, the americans might have got 3 spots for the olympics.

This is the first I've ever heard of Caro dating Tomas. I don't blame her . She does have a boyfriend and as someone wrote, he is an Olympic speed-walker (I always thought they look like ducks in the speed walking events). Brian and Valentina are no longer an item, no comment from either beyond that.

Others - I think Volosozhar and Morozov are a couple off the ice, and Matthieu Jost and Vanessa Gusmerolli are apparently expecting a baby. I can't believe I know all this .

A few thoughts

Congrats to Yu Na and Brian O.!  ;)

So happy for Joannie!!!

Very glad to see Miki back on the podium and happy with her performances!!!

What a treat to see Sarah Maier. I knew she had an injury, so I didn't expect to see her at Worlds. I was overjoyed to see her.

I still love my Fumie!!

Rachel did great. What a senior worlds debut!!

I am so glad and relieved to learn that Alissa skated well in the free skate. Shame on NBC for not showing her.

If Alissa skated a clean short we would have definitly got 3 spots. With Rachael in fifth it bitter sweet. I proud of her and I'm sure Zhang could have proably equal Rachael's performance.

I just figure out that this was the first time that Mao Asada didn't medal in a major international event.

You're right. They would have got 3 spots. I just wonder who will go to the olympics for the usa next year.

Kim is of course the deserved winner. But I don't know what the judges are getting at with those huge PCS scores. There was a very obvious mistake in that program, but the PCS she got were like "6.0" in presentation. And the next time she doesn't get those huge scores she got for PCS in the long program - she will give a nasty interview that she doesn't understand why they gave her so much at worlds and less this time? It's what happened with Chan, and after thinking about it for a few days - the question is what were the judges thinking, giving him about 80 the entire season, except for the sudden 89 at 4CC?

Yuna's mistake is only popped 3 sal jump. It is not a obvious mistake. Didn't you remeber 2008 World LP? Asada fell 3A entrance. (she didn't execute that jump)and wandered over link almost 40 seconds without any chreography. It was a obvious mistake. But she got a 60.57. That is over 2 more score Kostner and Yuna.

Today Mao didn't do the second 3A(fall) and 3-2 (2lo was downgraded). It is a obvious mistake, too. But Mao's PCS is nevertheless over Joannie's. (Mao got 62.88/ Joannie 62.8) Joannie taken a little mistake that 3Lz stepout at LP.

She popped a jump. She started the motion and even pushed off the ice. How's that not an obvious mistake? It was more than apparent that there was supposed to be a 3sal there. Get over it. I don't know why you need to bring up Mao's 3A-face plant from last year. Everyone knows that.

ITA, Miki had a great skate yesterday. It was my favorite performance of the night. I believe that's the first time IMHO in this quad that Miki has had the skate of her life.
