Medvedeva leaving Eteri

Not only is this statement incorrect, but that is so off topic in this thread. Why don't you check out the official ISU video on each jump and compare Yuna's side by side? They are literally identical.

In any case this thread is about Evgenya and Eteri. Is Orser actually official?

I dont think so.
If anything the director (or something like that) of her current club made a statement that while Med is leaving Eteri, she will be coached by someone else in the club, for example.

. Still... Unless the plan is to actually switch to representing Armenia, I really don't know what she could now gain that she couldn't with Eteri... Perhaps the choice was psychological. But I still can't think of a good reason when considering it rationally... She has had amazing results. And I don't think that she'll be able to just add and add. I imagine she's going to be losing something, also. Hopefully that's not her consistency.

I think there’s one important thing that she could gain with Orser and that she’s probably aiming at: longevity

Not if she skates for russia.
Because 3 spots and tons of talented up and coming juniors, and the spots are still 3. If she loses any of her consistency and consequentially reputation (and also has a foreign coach who cannot do politics with rusfed for her), she will be out of the nationals podium quite easily.

The only thing that could give her longevity is switching countries.

It’s definitely a possibility, but with longevity I meant that it’s possible that the amazing Eteri juniors won’t have a long career at all and she might build a legacy instead

Evgenia is wise to determine her own destiny then try to defend the status quo. Yes, it's a risk. Yes, she still might not get the results she got under Eteri. But if she comes out of a stronger person and and can live without regret, that's probably worth more than dozens of medals until her current coaching situation.

I've seen Evgenia skate live a few times and her grit is impressive. Her Olympics FS, you could see she wanted to perform more do more than just backload a program. I think she wants more for herself than just to do all the jumps and rack up points and I applaud her for taking the steps to enhance her skating in a different way.

Just Eteri alone is averaging what, like two or three top level new girls every year now? The math is sadly not on Zhenya' side for spots.

Hey guys, just a reminder that while we understand that conversations can veer to other topics, please try to stick to the topic of the thread: Evgenia's decision to change coaches and the impact on her skating career

Please consider starting new threads about Evgenia's jump technique and comparison of other skaters to allow other posters to talk about the topic on hand. We will moderate accordingly if the posts go excessively off topic.

Thank you!

You could move the offending posts to the topic titled "Ur technique thread".

Can someone please translate this? Google say it is about two skaters who want to win can not have the same coach.

I would say in response: Javier and Yuzuru and D/W and V/M and then P/C and V/M as quick off the top of my head examples.

Can people please remember that this is an English language forum and post a translation along with the original. It would be much appreciated.

As a matter of fact, one is the gold medal. So V/M won and P/C lost, Hanyu won, Javi lost. You can surely train with the same coach, but BOTH of you cannot win the same OGM, WGM, etc.

Well of course you are correct. But both can be winners and go to the same coach. Javi 2 times world champion and Olympic medalist, Yuzuru 2 times Olympic champion. And both D/W and V/M are Olympic Champions and I'm pretty sure P/C will be in 2022.

I was really just trying to work out what the video this is linked to is about and threw in my two cents about the theory.

In some documentary or interview, I don't exactly remember where, I think Eteri said that it is harder with female skaters after they reach a certain age, because their bodies get ready for 'motherhood'. Maybe it might be that if she has this philosophy, Evgenia's time was just 'up'. She might have not said it like this, but Medvedeva knew. I think, continuing this coaching relationship, keeping Evgenia at the top level, would've been a possibility to show that it is possible to have longevity against that philosophy. Something that seemingly didn't happen with Julia, could've happened with Evgenia. But if Eteri herself doesn't believe in her skaters after they reached adulthood, I can see how it'll become harder to stay.

Eteri meant that the female pelvis enlarges with puberty in order to prepare the female body to future pregnancies. And larger pelvises make the jumping and above all the rotations much more difficult. Not to mention the breast: it enlarges too and it becomes even more difficult to jump straight and rotate. Indeed all the skating movements can become somewhat impaired with larger breast.

Where did the Orser rumor come from? The initial reports were that she was staying at the same facility but with a new coach

I think the statement was that she will still represent Sambo70 not that she'll take another Sambo coach? But not 100%, the news escalated so fast I didn't manage to throughly read everything

OK, but NOT in the same competition.
And Yagudin (he's who's speaking in the quoted Russian message) is referring to him and Plushenko: he had to leave Mishin in order to win.
As we say in Italian: "non tenere due galli nel pollaio" = don't keep two cocks in one hen-house.

The International Figure Skating site announced it yesterday that she was leaving Eteri and there is a possibility that she is moving to Canada with Orser. That’s where I first saw it. Who knows!

They stated that zhenya will represent Sambo, so she totally is going to train abroad. I think you need to represent an ice rink at e.g. nationals.. why would you represent Sambo when your training with another russian coach on another rink ( I doubt she would transfer to Tsareva)

My bet - she'll move to Orser eventually and change her nationality, she can represent Armenia (or what is her origin), I guess. The only way she has the chance to be in the next Olys and have a long career.
I'd really like to see her skate with Brian and Lori. I'm sure she can turn into a diamond.

Interesting. I don't know if Armenia is her origin, but I was thinking that representing a smaller fed would be ideal. I'd love to see Evgenia have a long career where she continues to develop. And I feel like that's what she wants. If she won olympic gold in 2022, she'd be 22 years old. That's practically elderly, among Russian ladies! But having said that, she's shown she's passionate about being Russian and representing Russia.

Carolina Kostner has the ideal situation: a country (and fed) who supports her enthusiastically. She had/has competition in Italy, but not so much that she ever had to worry about losing her spot to Worlds, Europeans or Olympics to someone else.

Carolina was more a jumper/beautiful technique skater when she emerged into the international spotlight. Now, everyone thinks of her as the ultimate example of an artistic skater.

That's what can happen when a skater has time to develop, and the desire.
