Osmond to sit out 2018-19 Grand Prix events

I think that even Osmond knows that her gold was unexpected and that others bombing helped her. So i don't think that she will come back "to chase another gold" like that. Unless ladies skating level drecrease dramatically (which i don't see happen). If she really plan to continue, she should really come back this season at worlds and not wait 2020, to keep fighting the podium. She doesn't have the GOEs and PCS supremacy like Yuna to expect a winning come back in two seasons.

honestly why are we comparing other skaters with Adelina? with any russian, they have a...different way to achieve medals than the rest of the field, lets compare them with the long of their career, so Osmond with another skater, like Mao, can it be done? I dont know, but seems more fair

I'm happy for Kaetlyn if she's happy. Last season was huge for her. She won 2 medals at the OG's and she's the Champion Of The World. The skating season is long and maybe she wants to take time and see the world. When you're touring, you don't get to enjoy the cities because you're focused on your job. Now she'll get to see them on her own time. Plus, she'll still be at Nationals and Worlds, right?

If this is her getting ready for retirement, it is quite surprising. I was expecting her to compete until the Olympics. Of course, she could just be skipping the season. But traditionally, it's been very difficult for skaters to come back after taking a season off. Furthermore, it might not reflect well on PCS momentum depending on what's going on in the meanwhile.

If Kostner retires(Who knows, though...), this will leave quite a void when it comes to top competition. It could have quite the consequences regarding the future. I also am curious about Skate Canada assignments with this.

Sounds like she hasn’t decided yet. It may be that while taking a break she decides she doesn’t feel the need to come back.

However, at this point I don’t think she’s signalling retirement either. If she was feeling that way, she would just retire. Probably the answer to whether she feels like she wants another two years, another four years, or is happy cheering from the stands going forward is one she’ll only find when she’s had some time off.

I've always felt Kaetlyn was the only "grown-up" woman skater, who has right to criticize current age limit and rapid PCS rise of rookie Russians in contrary to other stars wiping the ice, constantly urring and "shimmying out" their PCS alongside technically mediocre performances.
In my eyes only Osmond delivered so many perfect or near-perfect, super impressive technically and artistically skates, giving her right to complain about that.

Which, afaik, she's never did. Respect to the World Champion! :clapper:

It's interesting, since I think she had a realistic shot at the Final title. However, it's always good to take time to assess your goals going forward. She said she exceeded he own expectations this season. If that's true, investigating other opportunities is the right step. If she comes back, she needs to have a motivator. If she thinks she has a realistic chance at Olympic gold or silver unless she's line Kostner and keeps comonig back for sheer love of the sport, then evaluating is good.

That’s her way of escaping Asylum and going to Canada. Smart move on her part.

Given the Eteri factory churns out teens that win medals but who don't have any career longevity, I'd say it was smart.

Lord knows I'd feel satisfied with a career like Kaetlyn's. She's still young but she's won so much in her life. I'll be happy no matter what she does.

Alaine Chartrand should take her chance. Canadian fed can promote two ladies, so with Osmond out she can become the 2nd lady in the light (if she really work hard). She has far more potential than Larkyn.

If Kostner retires, I think Italian figure skating will officialy be in mourning Of course there are some talents here, but honestly it's hard for me to see someone able to take over from her. I don't if there is a skater who can compete with "monsters" like Zagitova, Medvedeva, Osmond and so on.

The fed will invest more money, more politicking in young and talented girls who are the future. If Kostner won titles, others can do that too.

I sincerely hope for very selfish reasons that she comes back because no one in the Ladies field jumps like her and I've loved watching her perform to such a high standard. But that being said, I want her to do what's right for her. We've seen some incredible skaters seem to lose motivation and begin a decline and that's always so disappointing and heartbreaking to see. I also don't want that for her.

That being said, who knows, maybe she's taking the time off to learn a quad and she'll show up at CanNats with a quad toe or a quad loop That's certainly what I'm rooting my fingers for.

If you mean that all russian skaters are like Adelina you're dead wrong.

Osmond's career lasted just as much as Elena Radionova, Anna Pogorilaya,...

Tuktamysheva is still there competing after 7 seasons in seniors.

Comparing Osmond and Mao careers is also not fair considering Mao competed for more than 10 years in seniors, and went to both 2010 and 2014 Olympics.
