Patrick Chan

This is a beautiful program and Patrick can really get into the music and performance but tonight jumps messed up his head which messed up the jumps. He needs to regroup mentally. Yes, go with the flow, but flow has direction. He still has the jumps but he's not invested in the relationship with them these days. As long as he's in competition, he needs the fight in him. I find him conceding too much these days. I hope he finds the old natural winner self who made other concede. Make the jumps his friends again.

Nonetheless, this program is so wonderful and beautifully performed that I was still mesmerized by it, with little care about the jumps.

Who knew Patrick's trusted SP layout for four straight seasons would now look so pedestrian??? I love DITW so much, but. gosh, I really want the 4S to be back in there. The program is gorgeous and I love the costume too. I will post favorite moments when I'm not quite so tired. 2nd after SP -- what I was hoping for.

I haven't seen the LP yet, but obviously it didn't go too well, for two skaters to leapfrog him. The costume is a winner for me though. Goodbye GPF, and another chance to see DITW and Hallelujah is gone. They are becoming more precious by the day. Hopefully the sports psych can help Patrick reset his mind for NHK. I got my wish of two new costumes and a "pretty good" DITW, but that's it. I hoped he would get silver or at least be on the podium. Oh well. :(

:ghug: everybody.

I, too, really like this new top the best in this quad. Red will bring him good luck, just you wait. Things didn't go right for him this week but this is to get the bad luck out of the way. My concern is his missing the GPF so let's hope he will go to a challenger event like 4everchan suggests.

to be competitive, you need to want it... and to want it, he needs to go fight, with all his weapons, 4s included.

Apparently, out in the edge there is talk that Patrick may pull out of NHK.

Also, there may be a possible injury.

Let's see what news comes out.

I know we're all a little down but :ghug:

re NHK... well i hope he changes his mind about that...

re injury : i heard that knc on tv... and he was saying that he was feeling tired and his legs didn't have the power...

this has happened to him at skate canada 2016 i think????or was it finlandia???? at the end of the program he couldn't push...

Perhaps there has been too much traveling, not enough time working..... waldochan was everywhere the last couple weeks...

performing at the highest level requires the utmost commitment... I am not saying Patrick isn't committed... but skipping Nebelhorn, removing jumps, etc etc.... it's the illusion of seeking perfection... it freezes you...

gosh.. i am sorry... i am a tad emotional about this.. it's something I have been through... seeking for perfection when working/practicing YES... but not when performing... it's the worst possible mindset as there are too many factors one cannot control.... so... Patrick, I hope you just keep working and set yourself other kinds of goals.

One cannot deny who they are..... Patrick is a fighter... a competitor... the conservative approach works for others but it's not for him.... IMHO

I vote to go for the withdrawal and take a break from the pressure. I'm gonna go along to what Patrick said. And now I think he needs to follow it too.

Btw he has mighty beautiful programs. Even without the quads and the technical mumbo-jumbo. Not gonna delve into the scoring because Skate Canada doesn't exist in my mind. Wait what happened this weekend?

Good idea. I'm here to escape and not think about other things. Then first there was Anna's terrible falls and hurt back. The ladies did aweful and Kaetlyn's rightful win is fodder for Canada bashing again. Patrick's debacle makes me want to leave this forum for some peace somewhere else. Yup, I'll regroup and hopefully Patrick will too.

Is Patrick allowed to withdraw? I thought the grand prix series was mandatory.
Imo, skipping nkh might be a good idea if he replaces it with another competition in North America that doesn't involve so much travel time.

Maybe if his season is that abbreviated, he'll stick around for one more season to do the programs full justice??? But let's not get ahead of ourselves..... All the best to Patrick mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, everything!!! WE LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!! :console:

No, Patrick needs to fight. It's not time to quit.

Oh I want him to fight too but nhk may not be the best place to do it.
He needs to get mileage on the programs, that can be done in smaller competitions.

He needs to adjust his mindset and not concede to the quadsters. He has to keep his commitment and say goodbye to competitions and what he doesn't like about skating any more after the Olympics. He has the jumps to do well. A partial concession is like a total concession because then the important non-competitive goals will go down too. it's all mental.

yup... Patrick needs to fight... the whole "my strength is not jumping, it's skating" is an illusion.... His strength was landing quads. We love him for his skating... but in the sport, his asset is landing his 4t.... he picked up quickly a gorgeous 4s at 26... who does that? Only a master quad jumper....

He got frustrated with the 4f this summer...
He wrote some weird narrative in his mind that he would show the world what skating is...
That he would be focusing on quality.... and everyone in the press picked up on it : he is going to need perfection...

Oh well... I have said enough... but I just wanted to say that I agree... I want the fire to be lit... he has that in him... he needs to find it... and maintain it.

4everchan, maybe you should start a new poll. ;)

Should Patrick withdraw from NHK?

:laugh2: not happening lol

Group hug everyone :ghug:
I was watching his LP while in the train, and I couldn’t care less about the stares I got when I shrieked a bit.
I’m honestly confused and lost as to how Patrick should go about this.
But yeah :ghug: sends all our love to Patrick
