Patrick Chan

I love Patrick Chan and his skating.

Hope he does whatever makes him happy <3

Welcome, welcome! I hope the same for him!

Well, as usual, even though Patrick's LP mistakes may have spooked us a little, it was a pleasure working on the following blog post and rounding up all of the wonderful comments fans tweeted to him.

I also created a spooky Halloween graphic for him, if you care to see it! As it is late, I will only say this much: my hugs to all of you!

thanks for sharing the tweets from the fans... it got me all teary... i am so happy that so many people get patrick and love him unconditionally ... we are a handful of hardcore fans here... but these tweets came from everywhere and it was very healing to read them.

I looked at the scores earlier today and my heart sank for Patrick, but when I watched his program just now, I was completely mesmerized. I think this is what I love about his skating. Even when the jumps are off, there's still so much magic. So glad to see that many others feel the same way. Obviously I would love for him to win everything, but it's more important that he enjoys and is satisfied with this season.

Fwiw, if he goes to NHK and does well there, I don't think it's out of the question that he could qualify for the GPF. He did when he placed first and fifth a few seasons ago.

even 2+4 is possible... nathan did it last year....

Oops, I meant to write first and fifth (when TEB was cancelled after the short), but yeah, the point remains. I think winning outright is worth more points (and wins in any tie breakers) and obviously it depends on how others place, but the men's event is quite unpredictable these days that anything could happen.

That compilation is lovely!

I definitely felt that his body language was off as he went to center ice. He was rolling his neck and looked unsure. From his KNC comments he seems a "vibes" type of person right now, like if the energy or atmosphere isn't correct that's how things are going to turn out. At this point in his career he doesn't seem like the type that either thrives off of adversity or feels the urge to fight against it. While that's not great from a competitive standpoint, we have to remember he's been competing at this level for so long. By the time Jason Brown entered senior level, Patrick had been at it for about 7 years. When Patrick entered the senior level, Uno and Samarin were about 9 or 10 years old. (Now I'm pausing to apply moisturizer because I've made myself feel ancient.)

It has to be a grind competing at this level while still remaining in the conversation, with a home crowd expecting you to maybe win but definitely be on the podium. I could be projecting but I thought I saw some signs of relief in the KNC?

Maybe he did burden himself with those thoughts in this competition and it tripped him up on the jumps, but what's done is done. I hope he is able to go to NHK and just skate like he has nothing to prove because he really doesn't.

Also, I can't believe there hasn't been a mention in this thread about the yellow plush doll assassination attempt that happened in the KNC.

Hello:) I am a great fan of this thread and always enjoy your comments !!
This is my very first post in the Forum, as I am less confident in writing in a foreign language..

But this time, please let me share with you my unconditional support for Patrick, whatever happens to him.
He's been so special and given me so much through his skating for such a long time.

All the Japanese audience are ready to give him a huge welcome and cheer-up if he does go to NHK:):)

So sad last night, but wish him all the best, and hope he can fight in Japan again! Patrick has so many fans there too! Any news about his gala program today?

Welcome to the thread 😀😀😀

Nice to meet you I'm new here to. 😊

Same, his something special. 😄

Then no matter what let's hope for the best.
If he does go. It's awesome to know that he has support in NHK. 😄

yup . 1 and 5 is often possible...

2 and 4 is possible as long as one of the silver medalist in the other events finishes 5th in one of his competition... For instance, last year, Boyang started with a 5th place, and was in contention until COC..... where he finished 2nd.... which gave Nathan (2 and 4) the berth.

So all is not lost but it's not easy.... what may help is that so far, Nathan, Yuzuru and Shoma are all in good positions and are expected to be there.... Jason is the great winner of what happened yesterday but he needs to medal at his next event.... (and Patrick could place ahead of him in NHK). I don't think that the two bronze medalists so far will necessarily repeat in their next event. Not impossible but this may help Patrick.

In any case, let's first see if he decides to compete. I hope he will as he needs to rebuild his confidence and the soonest you get a chance to do that, it's usually best... letting the bad performance linger in your head for too long is not good. He needs new experiences, new memories.

hi hi dailytg20 not sure we have met on this fan fest, so please, welcome to our thread celebrating Patrick, in good and less optimal times ;)

I have no idea what you are talking about in the KNC.... care to elaborate? I can imagine Patrick being goofy and exploiting a plushy to release some frustration... i nearly threw my laptop into the telly last night... HAHA.... but then i thought i'd need it for CoC next week ;)

I think it's very nice to hear that many fans in Japan are hoping that Patrick will go to NHK. If I am not mistaken, he has only competed there once for NHK... however, he has been to japan open and other competitions in Japan quite often.

Thank you for offering your first post to this special thread :) come visit us often! I agree with you wholeheartedly : Patrick is so special and has given us so much through his skating....and for such a long time...

We sometimes forget he has been part of our lives for over 10 years.... it's been a roller-coaster ride but the lows are what make us enjoy the highs even more.

Thank you for reading and welcome! I agree that something was off - believe it or not I was in the grocery store watching the livestream on my phone and caught his performance just in time. But when they showed his face, he had dark circles under his eyes and looked very tired. My first reaction was "uh oh", and then the rest happened.

Even though he may not thrive on adversity, a couple of people on Twitter had a valid point that Team Canada still needs him in order to get the team gold at the Olympics. So if nothing else can motivate him to continue fighting, maybe the thought that he is a very much needed part of a team can do it.

Welcome! Japanese fans on Twitter said the same to Patrick! And don't worry about your English - it is excellent!

All, several more kind tweets to Patrick were posted so I added them to the list on my blog post this morning (they are at the top).

Patrick's beautiful costume inspired a fan to draw this:

And some Korean fans got an autograph!

And welcome to any new posters that I missed!

Bev Smith article with some quotes from Patrick. (I apologize if this was already posted, I'm traveling and just saw this).

You beat me to it!

I like what he said here:

“If making mistakes is how I have to get to the Olympics, then that’s how it is and that’s okay,” he said. “I really have had a lot of success this whole career. If I have another one, great. If I don’t, then it’s okay. I know it’s part of the process.”

He didn't say he was going to withdraw from NHK - just that it was an idea, a strategy.

By the way, does anyone think that "Hallelujah" may be too much of a low-energy song for Patrick's LP? Last night a family member was watching with me and thought the song was like a tranquilizer - it would make a tired skater feel even more tired. What do you all think?

Hallo 4everchan! Nice to meet you!

Oh I meant that moment in the KNC when a fan accidentally beaned Patrick in the head and he mock fainted.

Even though he may not thrive on adversity, a couple of people on Twitter had a valid point that Team Canada still needs him in order to get the team gold at the Olympics. Very good point. He's going to be the linchpin in Team Canada getting that gold, now that ladies like Osmond are locked and loaded. Working on behalf of a team is different so I am sure it will propel him to push harder there.

I'm not so much worried about the performance itself. Everybody has a bad day, and it's better that it happened here rather than at the Olympics. But I am worried about Patrick's attitude and some of his comments to the press after the competition.

"Look at this week. You got moments like that, you just kind of throw your hands up and …I’m not a fan of this. I’d rather be home and be in my own bed and be comfortable."
"It’s definitely much harder now. I come to these events and the novelty has worn off a bit"
"It was hard for me to get started this year. Maybe because I know the end is near. So it’s getting harder and harder and harder to push myself and keep grinding it out at the very highest level. It gets tough."

You cannot compete at the level required for the Olympic Games unless you actually WANT to win. And to me it seems like he doesn't really care anymore?

During the TSN broadcast Tracy Wilson said that she was worried about him and that he needs to ask himself why he's here. I don't think I've ever heard her say that about Patrick before, but it's true. He can't just go to the Olympics because all of his other teammates are going or because he thinks maybe he could get a Team gold medal. He has to go because he actually wants to be there and he wants to compete and he wants to win.

So yeah idk. We'll see what happens I guess.
