i feel it's Marina who needs to explain how she is managing patrick's season..

i wrote it in the canadian thread

patrick is a guy who needs to build confidence with a new program... see the chopin... it took a while... he had it in 2014 J O ... he peaked at 4cc with it in 2016... black bird was an exh.... before it was a short.. peaked at worlds.... MTK peaked at worlds...but was a nightmare throughout the season... thankfully that year, he had the chopin LP to feel secure...

this year... two new programs... two very personal ones.... he needs mileage....

no summer skate in canada (onyx meh.. he was pretty much alone there and he planned a zayaked program)
no NB
no NHK
no GPF

do Patrick and Marina feel that doing Skate Canada and Nationals only, is adequate preparation before the Games?

something is fishy here...


If i were Skate Canada i would remove Patrick's byes and make him skate in Challenge IN MONTREAL nya nya ;) (so i could go and scout )

but seriously....

the one thing that makes me happy is that the fed managed to recuperate the spot for keegan.
 
Are there other senior B competitions he could do? Warsaw, Tallinn, Golden Spin? The entries for the first two are out already so I don't know if that means entries are closed, but maybe Golden Spin could be a possibility? Absolutely agreed that he needs more competitions before Nationals and Olympics.

i'd be happy if he did a senior b... but it's looks like a small bandaid on a very large cut.... as I said... i like how we are all zen and accepting of our beloved chiddy... though I also agree that we need to have our emotional outbreaks : this is mine :hpull:

Yes. And no. If he made an announcement, he'd have to give a reason, which people would then analyze/pick apart (we in the Fan Fest would do it lovingly, and some people elsewhere would do it harshly). After SC, I am leaning more toward the attitude that the less Patrick says to the public right now, the better. I would appreciate hearing from him, but I don't mind him working out his demons privately. As simple a statement as Gracie gave for skipping the GPs, people still spent pages and pages analyzing it on the forum. No matter what Patrick would say or do, some people would criticize him for it (I don't doubt that some have already said he should retire immediately after his unfortunate SC LP). When he's ready to speak, I'll gladly listen. The words one uses are important, and he might not be ready to articulate what he's feeling. I am personally SO SO SO SAD that these two programs, which have such brilliant potential to be my two favorites of all time from him (maybe they already are, but they haven't been skated to a high level yet), are getting shortchanged. And it makes me even more sad to think about how special these programs are to Patrick and how badly he himself wants to do them justice. I wish MTK had gotten shortchanged and not DITW (but then if that had happened, Chopin would also have been shortchanged; as it happened, we got one less Chopin than we should have when TEB was cancelled after the SP). All the best to Patrick. What a bizarre season this is turning out to be. :ohwell: (Forgive my musings; I hope this post made at least a little bit of sense).

My observations, in no particular order - take it or leave it:

- Once again he suffered from tired legs, this time accompanied by extreme fatigue and exhaustion in his entire body that made him want to go to bed. Since his comeback, whenever he was frustrated with his progress, he always mentioned that he could stay in bed...
- In his comments to Marina in the K&C about not being able to force his body, I thought I heard some cynicism and anger in his tone.
- Why so secretive about withdrawing? Who is he afraid of letting down?
- As I said before, he is so talented and hardworking, but he may not like his job that much. If he compares himself to the quadsters, he may feel left out, and that is demotivating. I've noticed that with the exception of Javi and Nathan, he hardly socializes with the other top guys. Instead, at EX rehearsal he stared at his phone, alone.

Combine these and other factors and it occurred to me the other night that he might be suffering from burnout. This is a serious issue.

And yes - I worried, I prayed, I even cried for him this week. He's been on my heart a lot. I would rather hear him give us an honest answer than go into hiding, hoping we don't notice. Critics be damned!

So there we have it. One positive thing is we don't have to keep wondering if he would be able to sneak into the GPF or not. But suddenly I'm not as interested in the entire men's GP now (sorry, I know the other skaters work very hard and have their own amazing qualities, but Patrick's programs are the most interesting for me to watch this season). I also very much like Deniss Vasiljevs, but he's young and doesn't have the quad yet, so no GPF possibility for him yet. It also sounds like Patrick won't be doing a Senior B or anything. :( Better than competing burned out, I suppose, but having so few competitions will present its own challenges for him at Nationals. :pray: What about 4CC and Worlds now? (They're probably still too close to the Games, but we can dream! :laugh:)

ETA: I like the matter-of-fact tone of the announcement, which gave a one-sentence explanation and stopped there. It announces the news while protecting Patrick.
 
I'm sad that Patrick withdrew from NHK, but I guess he has to cast away any demons and do what he has to do for himself. I always liked watching him. He was the first male figure skater who made an impression on me when I saw him some years ago.

I hope he comes back strong for Canadian Nationals and the Olympics. I'm hoping to see him have that moment on the ice where he skates with all his heart and soul and just lets everything else go. That would be sublime.
 
I would be remiss if I didn't write a few words in Patrick's thread after seeing him at Sk Can. I had to wait a few days though to digest everything that happened. I wondered where he was during Thurs. am practice, as did many other people. Was glad to see him in the afternoon, but he seemed a little bit off - and who wouldn't after the saga of transportation difficulties. But at least we did get to hear the quiet swish, swish of his skates.

To say that I was stunned that he finished off the podium would be an understatement. I'm sure that his decision to withdraw from NHK was not an easy one. I really do hope we will see him at his Nationals and of course at the Olympics. I hope he will be able to use his skills in the future at his school. He will be a great teacher and mentor for young skaters.

And just a quick word about the crowds at Sk Can -- Yes, they did cheer the loudest for Canadians. Is this really a big surprise?! :shocked: Just like I heard the loudest cheers for the Chinese at Cup of China this weekend! The Canada crowd was very appreciative of all skaters' efforts and tried its best to encourage skaters who were having rough skates. I'm still trying to figure out if Regina spikes their water with happy pills. I don't think I encountered a crabby person all weekend!

I'm so heartbroken to know that Patrick has decided to withdraw from NHK:sad21::cry::cry:
In this Sunday morning, so many cries among Japanese fans who believed he would come...and my apology if my previous post may have resulted in rising a false hope.

Having seen his ups and downs, I'm often tempeted to think it's not fair that he has to go though so much testing:sad21:.
So I sincerely hope all the efforts he's been making will pay off in the Nationals and the Olympics.
As there are few opportunities to see him skate in competitions, I'll keep in mind every moment he provides on the ice with my feelings of gratitude.

I think it's a good decision for Patrick to withdraw from the NHK competition. I hope the decision is based on the need of focusing on training for Patrick but no other issues. :console:

My feeling and emotion are deeply disturbed lately by what is happening around Patrick. :( I'm worry and concern him so much but I can't do anything to help. As we all know that there wasn't much about Patrick's news released by him or SC prior to the SC competition. We were all wondering where was Patrick at that time.

Thank you my friends and the new posters for the contribution of all the well-written posts in this FF; also the tweets from Patrick's fans in Vivley's blog post. They are so touching and I read them all. I agree most of the detailed analysis, happy for the love and support that Patrick received. Some of the comments brought tears to my eyes.

Disappointments and fears are the tough things to handle for somebody. Patrick needs to leave them behind , stays positive, focuses in training to prepare for the Nationals and Olympics in a few months. He is a brilliant, beautiful, talented skater and that is one of the reasons we love him so much. I wish all the very best to Patrick and comes back strong than ever. ;)

"To Patrick with Love" is the name of this avatar. It will stay for now to show the love and support to PChiddy from his fans. :love:
