The Perfect Score on Ice Dance

This is really good to understand a little about the sport, and you can see how the teams located in north america(the ones who train there) are mastering the technical aspect of it, by understanding how to achieve level 4 in all elements and how to maximize the GOEs. I dont have the exact numbers yet, but the 2010 winner (VM) won with an 90% score approximately, and the team who won in 2006 (Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov) had a score of 80% (not SB, but really close), and they were the top team that year with an undefeted season. There was no +3 given to the winning ice dance team in the 2006 olys and 62 to the 2010

Highest score vs World record ?

The ISU publishes, in the statitistics section, the Progression of Highest Score, since the beginning of the 2010-2011 season.
The total score potentially being able to evolve from one season to the next, it is a question of Highest score and not of World Record as many TV commentators can imply.
Thus, starting from the first GP of the 2010-2011 season (NHK Trophy), for ice dance:
- The Highest score TOTAL has been improved 21 times,
- The Highest score SD has been improved 15 times,
- The Highest score FD has been improved 20 times.
Only D / W, V / M and P / C achieved these progressions, with each pair having done it at least once in each of the three rankings.

We are getting closer to the concept of world record by retaining the performance achieved compared to the perfect score.
Of course, there are the judges, the weather, and other variables that I forget, but in measured sports variables also exist! For example, in the 100m, the performance will vary depending on the wind, the altitude and the quality of the lining of the track ... among others.

Thus, for ice dance, evolution is less frequent:
- The performance compared to the perfect TOTAL score has been improved 11 times,
- The performance compared to the perfect SD score has been improved 11 times,
- The performance compared to the perfect FD score has been improved 14 times.

For elements that are in the same group but have different types that the skaters can pick from (eg. straight line/curved/rotational/stationary lift) and the same values, I denoted X at the beginning of the element designation.

Does anyone know if they’ve mention anywhere else (not just the technical communications?) raising the PCS factor? Surely in dance, of all the disciplines, they’d want to keep them about even...

Well, if they do, 1.0 and 1.6 factoring along with your TES they become 101.52, 157.84 (and 259.36).

They rejected a proposal to raise the factoring during the Congress so no, there'll be no re-factoring of PCS.

I did this today (more roughly) and came up with a 137 max score too. I was doing it to look at what percentage of the max TES score choreo elements now made up. They've gone from one eleventh to one fifth. That's a huge change for ice dance- they've doubled in importance in terms of the TES.

So I looked into what percentages of the overall score are made up of BV, GOE, and PCS. The GOE proportion in the overall score has greatly increased due to the decrease of the two others. This is consistent with them emphasizing more on the quality of the elements, similar to singles and pairs. A good thing about this change is that the tech panel, which has only 3 officials versus 9 judges on the judging panel, has a lower influence on the score.

By converting world2018 scores (in percent from perfection) on this new scale, there are potentially six pairs that exceed 200 points:
