I am so happy for Kaori. Canāt say anything else. Happy for her and her medal. She seems like such a cool girl, fun to be around and so earnest every time she goes on the ice, itās a pity some of her hard work was overshadowed by external factors in the competition.
Scherbakova, the Olympic Gold Medalist, saying she feels empty inside at the press conference pretty much sums it all up. This sport looks more like child exploitation by the minute. But maybe it had to happen like this for things to change. You sometimes need an "earthquake" to finally wake up. Not that I have a lot of hope.

We can disagree on the scoring, or even the pending doping case, but I hope we can all agree to at least be kind to the skaters.
Anna, Sasha, Kamila have been through a huge amount of stress. It's normal for the latter two to have such reactions and I hope (but am realistically not expecting) that they get some privacy to process their emotions in peace, and take a break from having their moral characters judged by the world.
Regarding the overall value of the competition, even if you don't like the podium there were plenty of good skates further down the standings. Mikutina, Brezinova, Gubanova, Bell, Kim, You, Higuchi...

Lots of drama and undeserved heartbreaks. I feel sorry for all these athletes that endure years of vigorous training and sacrifice so much... and then this happens what we have seen today. I'm extremely saddened. And most of the skaters are basically kids. That's not fair at all.

There was definitely a cloud over the whole competition which stripped a lot of the joy and excitement from everyone. It was hard to watch Kamila's skate and hard to watch the aftermath. Everyone worked so hard and sacrificed so much to be here, and I don't think this was the competition that anyone really wanted.
On a more shallow note, I was definitely struck by how negative Johnny was being towards the Russians. I don't watch that much NBC, but hasn't he spent the last couple of seasons praising Eteri and her girls to the skies? He was critical of Trusova's lack of artistry, didn't gush about Anna, and pointed out that Eteri started criticizing Kamila as soon as she left the ice.

After BellĀ“s freeskate performance, I really,really enjoyed watching GubanovaĀ“s beautiful and effortless skating, WOW!!! In my opinion she was robbed!!!
Glad that Liu skated so well and feeling especially happy for KaoriĀ“s bronze medal!!! Trusova jumped well, but compared to the Europeans her presentation was not as enjoyable. Happy for AnnaĀ“s gold and sad for Valieva, no wonder that she did not succeed under the circumstances.

I don't recall when I saw it, it may have been today during the times when the ice was being resurfaced, but Terry Gannon, Tara and Johnny were talking about the doping situation, and Johnny referenced all the praise he's given in the past, and said that he now questions it, and wonders how to feel about the Russian skaters now.
HOWEVER - understand that I'm paraphrasing, and was watching with very tired eyes and ears, as I went to bed late last night, and was up at 5:00am to see the event live.
It was bittersweet competition. Absolutely great for Kaori to get on the podium. However I bow down to the supremacy of Anna Shcherbakova. She has proven time and again that she can withstand intense pressure. She is an incredible athlete and artist on the ice and she deserves Gold . The scenes backstage after the competition were hard to watch though .Trusova seemed distraught. A sad denouement.
This was such a sad event. The ones that should be happy (Anna and Kaori), weren't really happy because of all the drama around them, and everyone else was just crying. 
I totally feel for Trusova. This time she was just one (or two?) small mistakes away from winning the Gold and she has never won anything big besides Junior worlds. To be this close to becoming the Olympic champion must hurt a lot. Looking back, I think Medvedeva deserves a lot of respect how she handled her defeat in public, no matter what her real feelings were.
I really hope she finally realizes she has to work on her performance aspects, losing 5 points in PCS is a lot. I think she could benefit from switching to Lambiel to work on her presentation.

I did everything. In the short and in the free, I did everything I could. I am content with my programs, I am happy with my performances. I did everything that I could.ā
When asked why she cried after learning she took silver, she said: āJust because. I wanted to cry, so I cried. Iāve been here for two weeks, alone without my mom, without the dogs, so I am crying.ā
Later in the press conference, Trusova said she was glad she did the five quad jumps and that it took her a long time to achieve them. When asked if she liked USAās Nathan Chen and was compared to him, she said sheād like to āemulate him.ā

I hope she can be proud of herself. I actually thought she was underscored in the SP and the FP.

Lol, i cant actually believe that both Weir and Rippon come to Anna insta to congratulate her, after what they both were screaming about Russians all week.
They really don't know what is shame. It seems they took any opportunity to PR themselves. At least people in comment section speak with them as they deserved.

I'd say that Nathan is a good choice to emulate here if that means to improve artistic content, come back stronger and...

Sasha was already told by Plushenko that she needed to work on musical interpretation and performance, and that it would be advisable to limit the quads. Sasha didn't listen, and instead went back to Eteri and kept on doing what she had been doing since the JGP. But senior skaters are expected to deliver performance, and Sasha couldn't care less about that. Her eyes were glued steadfastly to the ice throughout the entire FS. None of her jumps, spins or transitions (a Danny G leg lift and a hydroplane move) were timed to the music. As it was, her PCS score were way too high for what she did on the ice; fortunately, they were way below Anna's and Kaori's. Sasha's skating skills are limited to jumps and she is lacking in just about every other category (spins, bladework) and her performance and interpretation skills are nil. She just doesn't have what it takes to be Olympic champion.
