You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

Jimmy Ma also used it - twice!
How did I forget about that? I actually saw Jimmy performing that program live at Skate America 2021! :drama: I even overheard him talking about how much he liked the Attack on Titan movie-- I think he said he'd seen it five times!

Since the friend I mentioned in my earlier post has now become my boyfriend, I can totally show that program to him sometime...after I finish showing him more Shoma Uno videos, lol 😁

1. When you can't wait to see which skaters got Grand Prix assignments.
2. When you think of March 17th as both St. Patrick's Day and Riverdance Day.
3. When the only Jason that comes to your mind is Jason Brown.
4. When you the Hamilton that you like is Scott Hamilton.
5. When you have reached triple digits watching at three of Jason Brown's programs on social media.

...when you are watching a celebrity special episode of "The Hit List" (the BBC gameshow where they play clips of music and you have to identify the song and the artist). And in Round 1 (where they play a song from the 2010's, then the noughties, then the 90's, then the 80's, and finally the 70's), you proverbially start banging your head against the wall when they play a 90's song and you hear the words "She'll make you take your clothes off and go dancing in the rain". :bang: :bang: :bang:

And then to rub salt into the wound, when they get to the 70's two songs later, you are compelled to go back to banging your head against the wall when you hear the words "... lover of the Russian Queen. There was a cat that really was gone". :bang: :bang: :bang:

As if we hadn't heard enough of "Living La Vida Loca" and "Rasputin" during the past two seasons of Ice Dance. :drama:

Mind you, I smiled when we got to Round 2 (where they play songs to a theme, in this case songs with string sections) and I heard the words "Close the door. Lay down upon the floor". How appropriate to hear "Runaway" today after talking about The Corrs with @Ic3Rabbit in the "Programmes By Discipline" thread over the past couple of days!

And then when they were looking us to identify songs by people with red hair during Round 3, we heard another Ice Dance warhorse: "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran. (The players identified it before the vocals even started!)

Having now watched the first three episodes of Series 9 over the past few weeks, it does make you think about how many songs there are that would be great for skating to, but which we never see being skated to.

And now to emphasise that point, BBC2 are having a whole night of music by Paul Heaton! (Massive Beautiful South fan here!)

...when you find a series of videos of a skating competition from 15 years ago that you hadn't come across before. And at the start of the day, they brought all of the skaters that were taking part out onto the ice (there were 24 of them). And when one of the little girls near the end comes out, you instantly go "Oh My Goodness!" 😲 Because you recognised her as being the skater that you now refer to as your "long-time main skating crush".

It hadn't even occurred to me that she might be there. But it was so good to see her, and to find out what she was like when she was younger.

Even as a 10 year old she had that smile that just makes you melt.

Needless to say, I went through the videos to find her programme. And watching it reminded me just how promising she was before injuries started to hold her back. And how much I have missed her since she retired.

I hope she is keeping well.
