...when you are watching a celebrity special episode of "The Hit List" (the BBC gameshow where they play clips of music and you have to identify the song and the artist). And in Round 1 (where they play a song from the 2010's, then the noughties, then the 90's, then the 80's, and finally the 70's), you proverbially start banging your head against the wall when they play a 90's song and you hear the words "She'll make you take your clothes off and go dancing in the rain".
And then to rub salt into the wound, when they get to the 70's two songs later, you are compelled to go back to banging your head against the wall when you hear the words "... lover of the Russian Queen. There was a cat that really was gone".
As if we hadn't heard enough of "
Living La Vida Loca" and "
Rasputin" during the past two seasons of Ice Dance.
Mind you, I smiled when we got to Round 2 (where they play songs to a theme, in this case songs with string sections) and I heard the words "Close the door. Lay down upon the floor". How appropriate to hear "
Runaway" today after talking about The Corrs with
@Ic3Rabbit in the "Programmes By Discipline" thread over the past couple of days!
And then when they were looking us to identify songs by people with red hair during Round 3, we heard another Ice Dance warhorse: "
Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran. (The players identified it before the vocals even started!)
Having now watched the first three episodes of Series 9 over the past few weeks, it does make you think about how many songs there are that would be great for skating to, but which we never see being skated to.
And now to emphasise that point, BBC2 are having a whole night of music by Paul Heaton! (Massive Beautiful South fan here!)
