You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

...when you hear fireworks going off last night, and your first thought is not that somebody is setting them off for Hallowe'en a couple of days early, but that somebody is setting them off to mark the birthday of one of the skaters you have adopted. 🎆

I know I've posted it a few times before, but I can't help myself. I absolutely love her 2022 Hallowe'en post, so here it is again:

You get four overseas parcels on one week, and the person collecting the mail is puzzled because only three of them came from Japan...

(ps - the fourth was still skating, from Germany  I am determinedly not thinking of what this all costs)

When you read this and you come with the idea of having a puzzle of each of your favorite skater:LOL:😂😂

........ I want that second one now, even though I can't do jigsaws to save my life, and goodness knows I have bought enough Yuzu stuff this last month!

(I ordered the special box set of RE_PRAY - from overseas with all the joy of Japanese mail ordering - because I absolutely need the pixel keybobs, never mind that I have a collection of all sorts of keybobs I have no intention of using, just having. My photobook/magazine shelf needs expanding. And it's not my only fannish weakness, when the time comes and my Nearest and Dearest are clearing out my house they are gonna be sooooo confused....)

...when one of your kids comes out to do her Short Programme, and as soon as the music starts, you get all emotional and say "this is her swansong season".

And then, when you see how upset she is afterwards despite only making one mistake, you say "no. This is her swansong competition".

Regardless of when the curtain comes down, be it today or later, I am really not ready for this.

Just to update you, there were more indications that that was her swansong competition. After the SP, both of her coaches joined her. It is usually one or the other. And then after the FS, neither of the coaches joined her. Instead, it was members of her family. Which I have never seen happen before in all the years I have been a fan.

For me, this was the confirmation that this was the curtain call.

But, I am glad to report that I was wrong. Because she has been in action again since then. And I am so happy that we get to enjoy her for at least a bit longer.

...when you re-install Windows on your computer, but haven't put your regular wallpaper back up yet, instead letting it select wallpapers for you.

And the day after one of the skaters you have adopted does her FS, it selects the following picture of the animal that she uses as her mascot:

Now that I think of it, we haven't seen her sloth this season. Before this season, you wouldn't have seen Stefania without him. I miss the sloth... 🦥

We are never ready.

When you still have great love for this beautiful sport even after reading all the negativity and constant criticisms on this board. There are many skaters out there that devote their life to the ice rink and try, try and try to improve. They should be celebrated along with those who do succeed in a brilliant way but still keep working at it. I will be sitting through the monotony of Novice, the hopes and dreams of juniors and the wonderfulness of seniors at Nationals this year and loving every minute of it -even the URs (she types, tongue in cheek!)

...when you go to the dentist's, and get told that you have to come back in 2 weeks and are given an appointment. And when you get home, the first thing you do, before you even take your coat off, is to check the Coloured Time Schedule for the Olympics to see if you are going to miss any skating.

By sheer luck, it's one of the days between competitions. :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

But then you look at the actual times of the competitions, and realise that they all in the evenings and that you will be not be able to watch LIVE. And, hence, you will be catching up the following day. So, it will interfere with your viewing after all.

And there I was thinking that it was good to have a European Olympics again, as it would mean the competitions would be during the daytime...

You mean you didn't then change the appointment? :wonder: I would have phoned back and said "Sorry, I checked my calendar when I got home and I can't make that time/day. How about...." after figuring out when wouldn't interfere with my Olympics-watching :coffee::popcorn:

When, after some practice, you can spell a lot of skaters' names without looking them up.

When you refer to skaters by name rather than by country, knowing how each skater from the same country differs from the others in their skating. Figure skating and gymnastics are the only sports I can do this with. With other sports, I am like every four-year skating fan who says "the American one."
