2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

I love  Yuzuru's music (huge improvement from last season!) and I mostly like the costume...although the underarm vents remind me a bit of Plushy's Bolero costume. Hopefully, he likes it & had some input into the design. But if he wants to wear frills again, I'm fine with that too. He should wear what makes him feel comfortable and whatever suits his style.

Satoko Miyahara:
SP: Fire Dance (perhaps the same version as Akiko Suzuki's SP in 09-10)
LP: Un Sospiro (first half of Mirai Nagasu's 10-11 SP)

... Daisuke Murakami(FS or EX) - Les Miserables ...

From the IN article:
Daisuke Murakami ... debuted his free skate for next season, set to "Bring Him Home" from the soundtrack of Les Misérables.

ETA, subsequent Jun 13 correction from the DM fan thread (emphasis added), citing Jun 12 post on DM official site:
It says on his website that "Bring Him Home" is his SP. There may have been some confusion because they didn't say if it was his SP/FS/EX yesterday, but the DOI announcer apparently introduced it as his SP today.

ETA, also from Dreams on Ice:

Emi Hirai & Marien De La Asuncion
FD: Turandot

Actually his costume is a modern adaptation of the Shinto priests clothes. He even included the pentagram,a symbol of Abe no Seimei, the charecter that he interprets
But of course he added a little bit of bling bling,he wouldn't be Yuzu if he didn't

Onmyoji costume is supposed to look like that: http://t03.deviantart.net/2wWjpo0ew...th/pre/f/2008/194/a/3/onmyoji_02_by_ameij.jpg

I'm sensing either a Turandot epidemic or a Les Mis epidemic...I actually haven't heard Turandot and I like what I've heard of Les Mis (even though I haven't seen it), so I'm game! Yay for no Carmen!

Turandot's been very common through the years, Shen/Zhao had a great FS to it for a couple of years, Shizuka Arakawa used it three(!) times in her career, including for her 2004 Worlds win and her 2006 Olympics win. It's the Nessun Dorma part that is most common, which is what Max Aaron is also using for his 2015-16 SP.

Les Mes and Great Gatsby seems to be the trend for next season

First off as I like to think, if you want to choose a song from the same musical/opera/movie/whatever, don't try to use the most popular song in it. Expand. Like there are probably more songs on the soundtracks that are good for skating. Not just the most popular song. Just like you only hear singles from artists on the radio but you never hear the B-side songs. Like the ones that don't get radio play. You might be surprised on how many songs others are missing.

Exactly. Just because we have some over lap this season does not mean we are going to be hearing anything as often as the line "Open up your mind" this last season.

I'm reading all those comments about warhorses and expanding... There is a reason why warhorses are warhorses. It's good music. There is a reason why the most popular song in a musical/opera/movie is the most popular: it's better. As somebody posted once, if you're choising POTO, you'd better include Music of the Night because it's the best part of it. Usually B-sides are B-sides because they are not as good as A-sides and lesser known pieces by great composers are lesser known because they are not as captivating as well-known one. Why would I want to listen (or watch or dance a routine to) to a lesser known part of a soundrack when the truly beautiful/awesome one is available? Not everything is Carmen or Swan Lake that is great throught and when it is, all of it is most likely a warhorse anyway.

This is totally subjective, though. I absolutely hate "Music of the Night" and I know I'm not the only one.

You most certainly are not! (Quite seriously, that song gives me the creeps.... no, really it does. I don't generally use such strong expressions, but... shudder)

Good Lord, I cannot STOMACH PoTO. Or Cats. Or any Andrew Lloyd Webber concoction with the exception of Evita. I've turned down numerous free tix to his shows over the years--and I'm someone who thinks "free" is the best four-letter word in the English language. Mucus in the Night. Ptooey I say.

You know what would be a good musical to skate to where there are multiple songs to skate to that I think would be good? "The Lion King."
