2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

I would send Ashley to Olympics and Karen to worlds. Pull a reverse Japan. Ashley got underscored in PCS in both segments, while Karen got the benefit of the doubt in the SP. Karen also got a salad of carrots in the FP, like she has all year. She did get placed in Bronze by the judges, so she should still get a good assignment, but if USFSA is smart, they send Ashley, the one who has been doing the press and advertisements, to the Olympics for her Swan Song, and Karen to Worlds, to prep for the future.

she reminds me more of early Kimmie Miesner. Lanky jumping bean with great consistency but not amazing artistry. Worked out well for Kimmie at Worlds 2006. Not that I think Bradie will win Worlds this year, but I think too 5 is a possibility.

Good comparison to Kimmie. I do see the resemblance.

Why? Place her side by side with any of the elite talent and it'll be apparent how weak she is by comparison, no one will be fooled. She's fighting for 5th place at best anyway. Just score her fairly.

What you said could be said about ANY of the American ladies' placement hopes at Olys.

I honestly think Karen was the most held up skater of this competition :slink:

I guess that 4th place at last years worlds carries far more weight then the many many underrotated jumps and poor results she displayed this season :confused2:

Agreed so much. Karen seems so sweet, and I'm happy for her. Still, I think her results were wrongly inflated compared to Ashley, who was blatantly underscored.

Same. Tbh, I still think they shouldn't send Bradie, doesn't matter that she won. On an international stage she's nothing. Ashley stands more of a chance. (along with Mirai and Karen)

They may think none has a chance for a medal but Bradie can use the experience for the next Olympics.

Both Bradie and Karen got higher PC's than Ashley (for both programs)...

Ashley deserved the bronze. She was very underscored and deserves to go to Korea.

It’s more that the USFSA is trying to send a message to the world. “We have a new girl! Technically sound like those little Russian girls! She WON our championships.” Having mirai win tonight wouldn’t send that message. The usfsa is really trying to push for bradie.

Not really because the second she stands next to the Russians, she's going to look very much weaker. It's seriously apparent, in everything. USFSA might give her Zhenya's TES scores and near Alina's PCS but the second they are in the same competition it becomes a giant oops.

I think they're trying to prop her up as much as possible for the Team event so that they don't lose out too much there.

I'd say with this level of politicking, Bradie could easily outscore skaters like Sotskova internationally.

Ashley wuzrobbed.

I'm emotional about it. I'll admit it. But who scores their only world medalist LESS at Nationals than they received that season internationally. (Also, I hate La La Land the movie and music, but that program felt fresh, and Ashley is the only lady who can perform as well as the best in the world.)

I'm over everyone on the internet treating Mirai like a victim.

At least I understand Bradie's overscoring, because I don't blame USFS for wanting to do like Russia and Japan and put their most consistent girls on top, even if they are lackluster in certain areas. Consistency wins in the ladies' events internationally.

I do think Bradie should try backloading next season. If any US lady can do it, it's her. So much solidity and confidence. It's admirable, and it's what's been missing from the US ladies for a long time. Plus, skating last definitely put her in the pressure cooker. Heck, I think she should do both team programs.

That's an incredibly lame excuse. I see Nathan's face everywhere much more than hers & I can't imagine him whining about missing training time.

calling it a "lame excuse" is probably the kind version of what many others would say :slink:

Too busy promoting nationals and the Olympics to train, really :scratch2: That sounds like priorities were strangely backwards, especially considering her last few competition outings :o:

Bradie would be much closer to 140 internationally much more than Mirai would :confused2:

Mirai's program was completely empty and focused on getting the jumps done and nothing else. Bradie's program, while not the most sophisticated, was pack with transitions. It's silly to think Mirai would beat Bradie tonight if this were international competition.

And now Bradie goes into Korea, and likely next season, as the undoubted US #1. Her marks will only get higher

Mirai would definitely beat Bradie if she landed her 3A clean. Bradie's PCS are going to deflate on the international stage. I
preferred Mirai's, Ashley's and Mariah Bell's programs to Bradie's. And honorable mention to Karen Chen's spiral.

I honestly think Karen was the most held up skater of this competition :slink:

What an absolutely ridiculous statement. She got two undeserved underrotation calls (including on her amazing Triple Lutz, which is totally baffling) and undeserved edge call on the Flip that should have just been a ! if anything. It's amazing she was deservedly placed 3rd with all of those calls against her.
