You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

You know you're a figure skating fan when you start doing programs in front of strangers when you here the music on the radio. I busted out Joshua's "Give Me Love" at Six Flags...I couldn't help myself. Gawd forbid I ever hear "Otonol" in public. I will break out in Maria Butyrskaya's LP from 1999 which I still know by heart.....

The worst...When you're watching football and a skating commercial comes on......I'm like.. "Nice Salchow Nathan" It's embarrassing..
Especially if it was a toe loop LOL. I would be more concerned if you started "skating" Maria's Otonol while showering at the gym.

^ I called Ice Works yesterday, and left a message for Lisa Sears. I hope she gets back to me with information. In the meantime I also sent an e-mail to Ice Works asking about the Summer Competition (will it actually take place & will spectators be allowed to attend it?).

Thanks. At least I just got my tickets for US Gymnastics Olympic Trials.

Lucky you! I was fortunate enough years ago to attend the second day of US Gymnastics Men's Nationals. As impressive as their feats are on TV, in person they're even more amazing. It was really fun! I hope you have a great time! Are you going to just some days or both days of Men's and Women's?

And getting back OT...you're know you're a figure skating fan that even when the Summer Olympics are coming, you're still even more excited about figure skating and can't wait for the fall for it to start! ;)

I never get excited by the Summer Olympics because, generally speaking, I am not interested in summer sports.

In the past few editions, I would have watched the Women's football, as that was the only sport on the roster that I was interested in. But, I've since lost interest in that sport (all the things I hated about the Men's game have now come into the Women's game, and have spoiled it for me), and so I'm not planning to watch any of the Summer Olympics this year, even if they do go ahead. (I'm still convinced that, although the organisers of Tokyo 2021 are determined to have them go ahead, they will finally have to give in to the inevitable and call them off. But they won't do it until the very last minute, causing chaos and uproar).

Now if Netball was on the roster at the Summer Olympics like it is at the Commonwealth Games, then that would be a totally different matter... ;)

...when, every time you hear the song "Titanium", all you can see in your head is a particular skater skating to it. And this is despite the fact that this skater has never done a programme to that song. The only reason you associate "Titanium" with them is that you used it as the backing music when you made a fan video for her.

Here is the fan video in question, and here is the actual programme I am picturing in my head. (Funnily enough, the same thing doesn't happen when I hear the programme's original music. But, I suppose that I have known "Grease" songs a lot longer than I have known the skater! )

And it is not just when you hear the version of the song that you used in the video - it happens with EVERY version of the song. It even happened a couple of weeks ago when I watched the Eurovision Grand Final, and a past contestant from the host country performed a cover during the interval.

I’m moving my answer to artistic gymnastics topic in the cafe so as to not derail this thread.

When you go to US Olympic Gymnastic Trials and don't bother to unpack your clear bag so you still have gloves and stuffies in it.

^ BTW, I'm still waiting to hear back from Ice Works. I've called them twice (one week apart), left messages, & sent an e-mail.

^ I'm sensing that it will be a "club" competition this season, although it is supposed to be open to US & Canadian Skaters (wondering when Canada will ease its travel restrictions).

I hope soon. Keegan is in the US though. So maybe he can skate in summer comps? Although his baby is due 7/4.

At this point (vaccinated) Canadian skaters could go to a comp in the US, provided they fly. Coming back to Canada now requires tests (and a self-isolation plan) but not actual self-isolation for vaccinated Canadian citizens/permanent residents.

Since the border closure/restrictions started, there has been an asymmetry: all Canadians can fly to the US (but not enter the US at a land border), but Canada treats US arrivals the same whether they came by land or by air (in other words, only a select few are allowed to enter).

Keegan may be able to skate in US summer comps, but even if it were not a club comp, it would sadly not be Philly. His Twitter account answered a question saying he would not be coming back (he used to skate at Liberty, I think as an American) as it was too far.

We'll miss seeing Keegan @ Ice Works, but will continue to cheer him on in ALL of his competitions! 💕 🇨🇦🇺🇸🌎⛸️
Of course I wasn’t going then, but the person on Twitter who asked, whom we know but is not on GS, ;)told me that Keegan used to come. that must have been a treat!

and yes we support Keegan everywhere:clap:
