It's gonna be wild seeing Danill S! I wonder if he'll have had a growth spurt or still be tiny?

When do we find out Junior Grand Prix assignments?
JGP entries are usually filled according to the actual situation, countries have their number of spots based on last junior worlds and apart from that there are no restrictions, so while there usually are preliminary lists, the final entries are usually decided within a week berore the actual competition.

Thanks for the info! I guess we'll have to stand-by stand-by as they say.

Since Misha K. is currently the top contender for a spot on the Russian gentlemen's Olympic team (see what I did here ;)), I will bring this news which was first posted by @AlexBreeze in Misha's fan fest, also to your general attention. Reportedly, Misha's new FS will be to Schindler's List. There is no official confirmation yet, but it's already all over social media. Tbh, I am not yet sold on the idea of a Schindler's List programme for Misha, but let's see what he shows at test skates.

I sincerely hope not. Warhorse status aside, we already know that Brown is doing Schindler's List for the Olympic year, it's a program that's well liked by both the fans and the judges, I don't see Kolyada justifiably beating brown on PCS unless Brown makes a lot of mistakes and if he can get the 4T stable enough for both programs Kolyada won't be able to rely on TES to beat him either. Honestly it's not a comparison I would be looking to invite if I were him.

I love Mozalev's programmes, they're somehow avant garde and retro at the same time :D

Also he's quite good at the non-jump technical elements, especially step sequences. I don't think of him primarily as a jumper (as in monstrous base value-type jumper), putting aside this season's results he is more of a consistent all-rounder. On the artist-jumper spectrum, I would put him somewhere closer to the middle, especially compared with e.g. Semenenko.

Honestly for the Russian men there are too many candidates with similar strengths and weaknesses to talk about a 'Samsonov-Mozalev-Gumennik/Semenenko trio' (e.g. Danielian is around the same age and definitely ought to fit in the picture). Humans like to think in threes. I might be a bit naive but I don't think politicking is as significant for the men as it is for e.g. ladies or ice dance - given their inconsistency, whether they land their jumps or not usually outweighs the impact of being given a PCS boost. In terms of opportunity for international assignments, it can be a nuisance, but at least this doesn't affect Nationals (and by extension, has less effect on Worlds/Euros).
I think whenever there is no clear leads and everything is on balance, politics starts playing a role. But the talent will out. One thing for sure, we will see consistent struggle this year. Apart from what had been mentioned, Aliev is another unknown at the moment, given his trials past year with health.

personally, my uneducated guess is that Mozalev had an advantage of a better stamina than many, so he could both use more movements when arms go above his heart, and also preserve choreography after falls; plus his speed is lower. I am actually looking forward to his programming choices because they were surprising.

Samsonov has good skating skills, lines and musicality. He is Mr. Spinny and has exceptional centring and speed in his spins. But he is expressionless (which usually makes me absolutely uninterested in a skater, but for some reason I still see something in him). He needs to unleash himself a bit more on the ice. Yeah, I know his technique doesn't seem sustainable at all, and he's got a leg wrap and head throw too. But I'm really hoping that the fact he has two Grand Prix assignments means that they are confident he will be in good enough form by then, cause getting 2 GP assignments when you're 16 is no joke
I felt that were sometimes glimpses of something appealing in his programs sometimes, like he could do more, but nothing else yet. However, growing is a big factor, so we shall see what happens, if he opens up or shuts down. He certainly has the stage now.

This is a bad idea...I don't think Misha K is Jewish and after the utter disaster Anton S's Schindler's program became (although I truly believe there was no malicious intent in the costume) the fans will be ready to tear into Misha for anything that could possibly be offensive (costume, how he interprets it) and it just won't match Jason's FS. Jason's fans are very protective... there's already disgruntled comments on Insta about it. :(

I hope Misha and Mishin change their minds before the new season!

Kolyada’s music choice is a questionable decision because he’s replacing a beautiful Olympic-level program that will be difficult to top with overused music, not because of Brown. I didn’t even think of Brown when I heard his announcement; my brain immediately went to Lipnitskaia.

The reason for this is because Brown doesn’t own Schindler’s List; it isn’t a definitive program for him. (That would have been Riverdance.) Come to think of it, Sadovsky also skated to Schindler’s List in the same season as Brown and did a pretty good job of it. Even competed with Brown in the same competition.

I think this reaction is overblown. It’s not like he’s skating to Blues For Klook, Tribute to Nijinsky, or hell, Seimei. Those are pieces that he truly shouldn’t be skating to because they are very much associated with one particular skater. Schindler’s List, on the other hand, belongs to whoever wants to skate to it. Kolyada’s a beautiful skater; I’m sure it’ll belong to him too.

Honestly, I just like WC more. He could have made it his, I think. I mean, we sat through what? 10 to 12 Queen programs last year, and I am able to listen to it again 🤣

I guess... although elsewhere I read a Jewish fan's opinion, which was basically if you're not Jewish you have no right to "use" their history to create emotion in your program. I mean this is just one opinion that I read, but I'm seriously risk-adverse and if I was Misha that would certainly be enough to make me "Nope" right out of it. I mean it's the Olympic season, who needs to "poke the bear" as it were?

Also, White Crow has a cultural connection with Misha (ballet, Russian).
Exactly! And it didn't get much exposure so it's not like it's stale or something...I'll even take the weird black shirt from Worlds over the possible backlash SL could cause.

Also, White Crow has a cultural connection with Misha (ballet, Russian). Schindler's List has basically become generic melodrama by now. For many of those programmes, swap out SL with any other suitably tragic music and you wouldn't notice the difference.
Well, he put Nutcracker as his short, so ballet connection is there now. Maybe he felt tired of it and didn’t want another season with it. Still, such a pity. I always found SL generic as far as musical tracks went as well.

I wonder what that fan thinks of Roman Sadovsky 🤔 He always wears a crucifix, so definitely not Jewish. Nor is Miyahara. AFAIK not Lipnitskaya or Farris either...

I'm just jumping in here to say that I think Anonymoose is referring to a post is on another site, and probably any queries should be directed to the user on another site. :) I don't think that user represents any views I've seen on Goldenskate.

I did some research when Jason first announced SL. He is the first Jewish singles skater to use SL, as far as I could determine. An Israeli ice dance team used SL some years ago. So had it in fact been so restricted, it would not be a warhorse now.;)

The thing about opinions is that everyone has 1, Lipnitskaya who actually had to fight to use the music and then Eteri and her were finally able to get Averbukh to choreograph it, was pretty thoroughly commended by the Jewish community for her portrayal, and her costuming was done directly to tie her to the movie. And that stance of 'use of xyz history is only mine to use' is the proverbial slippery slope - if only Jewish people that can use Schindler's list and any other music tied to Holocaust themed movies, then Americans, Russians, Japanese, etc. could turn around and lay the same claim.

I think they were annoyed at them as well, but basically Anton S's program is so reviled that basically any Russian - unless they happen to be Jewish I guess - is going to be scrutinized like nothing else. Misha's not going to get a pass because he's Misha, they'll tear him to pieces if the choreo or the costume isn't what they deem as "sensitive" and it doesn't even have to be an Anton S level of costume. Incidentally, I've read complaints about Roman S having a red accent on his costume ("Oh it's blood, so tasteless") so they take it pretty seriously.

I just hate the thought of Misha becoming skating's new punching bag (like Vincent Z is) by a very vocal subset of fans. Especially when it's easily avoided.
