Women's FS - 2022 Olympics: Thoughts?

IJS numbers are just ordinals disguised. The judges inflate or push down the numbers to get the order they want.

I don't know how people have the audacity to call what Trusova was going through a tantrum after all these kids are put through and the pressure they're in to be first by their own families and entire country and fans. Adults sitting at home comfortably. You should be ashamed. She was in distress and you lack basic empathy. I guess you never broke your bones literally or worked 12 hours a day for years while putting up with Eteri and her crew meanwhile being a child!

Valieva and Trusova looked broken and you all here judging.
Basically this! I wonder how many people have been in an intensely competitive artistic or competitive environment. It’s systemic not the individual!

It was so heart breaking to watch Valieva fall apart like that. I cried watching her cry.. I blame her coaches and adults around her. They should be banned from coaching. Hopefully she is allowed to come back soon with a new coach. I think Arutunian would be a great coach for both Valieva and Trusova.

Did you ignore what we just pointed out? Sasha skated a typical lyrical graceful sp program to an instrumental piece of music with only a double axel at 2021 Nationals and placed below both Kamila and Anna with such a score that even a triple axel flawlessly executed only would have taken her close to the lead, while their flawed skates were shamelessly overscored.
I think my intervention was clear : i haven't watched the event.. I am commenting in general about PCS. In my field of work it's not what you do that matters, is how you do it. The few times I have watched Sasha though it was not recently, I found her skating skills a bit basic. Downgrading the jump content COULD work for Sasha if she does spend time refining her blade work. Removing quad will not work if judges do not see the improvements they hope to see. The issue is not so much Sasha though... she needs a coaching team that will find a way to work with her on what she needs to improve the most. I am not sure that she found the right person to do that.

I feel like that this Olympic is a copy paste of Alina vs Evgenia drama.
The same story happen 4 years latter with drama between Anna vs Alexandra.

But, I find that this is a nightmare Olympic. Too much drama between all of those Eteri skater.

Compare to Evgenia who was below in them of technical base value.

That was not the case with Alexandra Trusova, she was the one with highest technical base value.

So, having skate with 5 clean quad ! And, that the judge send like message, Trusova it will never be enought for you for a Gold medal. That was a heartbreaking moment for me in this Olympic :(

I believe that Trusova should a won the Gold in this Olympic.

Congrat to Kaori Sakamoto surprise bronze medalist, I love it !

Congrat also to Anna, she win because of GOE, no mistake, and well balance skater in PCS and technical element.

But, I continue to think that was a harsh moment for Trusova who went for 5 quad and didn't win. I was rooting for her to win after this amazing free skate. Poor girl ! :(

Not quite. If this had been 6.0 judging Trusova would have won overall with 4th in the short and 1st in the free, beating Shcherbakova's 2nd and 2nd. This is exactly the situation that gave the gold medal to Sarah Hughes (4 & 1) over Irina Slutskaya (2 & 2) on the first tie-breaker in 2002 (Michelle Kwan was 1st in the short but fell twice in the long to finish 3rd in the LP and overall.

you are assuming though that under 6.0 Trusova would have placed 4th with a fall on a required element... i doubt it ...

and regarding the other bit... :) well Irina should have won... :)

Letting her compete would be not an issue if people managed to stay civil and stick to "not guilty until proven otherwise".
What if they find she did nothing wrong. Than what? Now that they broke her and shame on NBC
for following her around and showing to the world her emotions. I hate NBC, they have no shame and thrive
on others misfortunes. And not just in Figure Skating.

Trusova didn't skate with clean quad jumps. She stepped out of a quad toe and underrotated her final quad lutz.

That was 5 clean quad, (one was q, but it has the base value of a quad so we can count this one also) in them of rotating the jump, I don't talk about the GOE. Sasha land 5 quads, and the message that the judge send her, is that you will never win even with the hardest layout. I was finding this situation really sad for her.

Midori Ito was the same way. She was landing clean 6-7 triples and still losing to someone like Katarina Witt with 2-3 triples.

Congrats to Anna. She delivers again and again no matter what pressure. :bow:I don´t think she gets enough respect for that. So sad to see her alone and subdued in that moment.
Congrats Kaori, who had three absolute flawless performances at the Olympics. :bow:Her skates are those I want to watch again.
Anna looked so sad. I am sure it was hard for her to see Kamila so broken. Even though they may be fierce competitors.
They are friends and Team Mates.

Well, in this event Trusova's 5 quads were enough to win the LP ahead of Shcherbakova with 2 quads, a lot of GOE, and high PCS. Whjat determined the gold medal was Anna's lead over Sasha from the short program.
Poor Sasha, she is right when she say everyone in her team has a gold medal except her. Kamila in team event gold, Anna in individual event.
Life is cruel isn't it.
Why the ROC didn't put her in the team event with Kamila. If ROC would have put Kamila in the SP and Alexandra in the FS in the team event. The 3 girls would have comeback with a gold medal.

What a shame for Trusova ! :(

exactly... requiem is a mass to commemorate someone's passing... ominous to say the least, especially with all surrounding this event... i said it a million times i didn't want nathan to skate on the mozart at the olympics... i was right about this..
I agree and am glad it was a one time skate from Nathan. With Anna (Lacrymosa) and Kamila (Bolero) it was as if both girls were at the edge of Torvill & Dean's volcano deciding it was do or die time.

Sasha's PCS should be 50. She scored 70. Someone talked about 2 or 3 points of discretion, the judges could have put her ahead of Anna. No. Those twenty points of discretion were just to get her so far ahead of Sakamoto, You, Wakaba, etc. no matter what they did.

There was zero chance she would have ever beat clean Anna with 5 quads. Her coaches tried to explain this to her, and told her to do 4 quads instead. She didn't listen. She had already decided in her own mind what she would do. And that's fine, as long as she can accept the outcome. But if she can't and meltdown like that, expecting to get whatever she want her own way, well, that's tough lesson to learn but everyone have to learn it sometime in their life.

The problem is, in her own mind, she must think she's already so close in PCS she doesn't need to train harder on the components. She can just do extra quad and win. But she doesn't understand her PCS is already inflated and arbitrary. Going for those extra tech points was illusory. In that sense, she was a victim of her PCS being propped up, then not understanding why things turned out the way they did.

The judges simply don't want to put her in front of clean Anna because Anna is a more complete skater. They will find some way to nudge the PCS or GOEs in order to make that outcome. But she didn't understand it.

Exactly. Her team did not sabotage her cause those programs are exactly what she wanted. When they tried to give her choreography in the past she didn't perform it. They tried to make her practice things other than quads and she thought it was a waste of time. That's why she left. She just wants to jump and the other stuff doesn't matter to her.

She truly thinks she had a winning program because of those 5 quads and those 5 quads alone. Her tantrum and her remarks regarding her jumps proves she just doesn't understand. She's been competing on the senior circuit far too long to be this clueless about what it takes to win yet somehow she is. Maybe after she calms down she'll realize what this thunderbolt means and will start taking other parts of her skating more seriously.

She did have the winning program (the LP) based on those 5 quads and those 5 quads alone. She outpointed Shcherbakova, and everyone else, diespite her deficiencies in other areas.

What she should be throwing a hissy fit about is the rule that says no quads in the short program. That's where she lost the gold medal, not in the 5-quad LP.
