Looking up for information quickly: Nobu will skate for Osaka. The selection competition of Osaka will be held on Nov. 12th. And Nobu's top competitor might be Sumoto. And since Osaka already got the 'seed' status from last year's Winter Sports Festival, it's likely that Nobu can join Sumoto to get the entris (for Osaka) to the Winter Sports Festival of 2023, which will be held on Jan 27-31 in Aomori.

Japanese men seem to do really well in the longevity stakes, what with Daisuke Takahashi battling for Japan's top spot in ice dance, Ryuichi Kihara switching to pairs and going strong at 30, and now Nobu. Respect!

As both Tomono and Sumoto WD-ed, I think Oda indeed gets the Osaka representative spot. We should be seeing him in the competition next year!
Nobu's self-comment on Twitter ...this is really cute: in the last element, he made a note that it was the first time in his life to successfully jump the 3Lz-2A seq!

Yuma's back on the competition roster, as he's been assigmed to University Games alongside Shun and Tat. I'm assuming this means he's recovering well enough to compete at Nats and beyond, as this is just a few weeks after. Plus, he stated that he was doing well in a recent tweet. If he his healthy, there will be an absolute bloodbath for the 3rd spot at Worlds

Ok guys, I did this last season, so I thought it'd be interesting to do it this season too!
Japanese Men's season's best scores so far (among the Top 30 in the ISU list):
Kao Miura: 273.19
Shoma Uno: 273.15
Sota Yamamoto: 257.90
Shun Sato: 249.03
Kazuki Tomono: 248.77
Koshiro Shimada: 247.17
Takeru Amine Kataise: 234.24
Tatsuya Tsuboi: 226.13
A very different landscape from last season! Kao, Sota, Shun and Koshiro had a difficult Olympic season and are now coming back strong
Shoma and Kazuki, now not only the shortest but also the oldest in the field
, are not doing badly but haven't showed their full potential yet this season. Along with Yuma who's injured, they might be feeling a bit of post-Olympic season burnout.
Takeru and Tatsuya don't have yet the firepower to compete with the top guys, although I believe Tatsuya scores can improve - he was very nervous at his first-ever senior GP assignment. One notable absence is Sena Miyake, who did so well in the later part of last season and could potentially come back strong at Nationals.
TL;DR: Japanese men continue as exciting as ever!

I think none of the men are maxed out yet.
After yesterday's scoring of free programs, I'm losing interest in competitions again, though I'll stay around for next weekend. The only thing I care about by now is JSF correcting their crooked ways and sending *everyone* (everyone healthy that is) from their top singles to events where they can get points, not just two random picks (though the cynical side of me doesn't believe those were random).
That's about all I have to say at this point. Good for you others to still have optimism. Watching JSF act the way they do, I have none left.

Definitely not! That's what makes it exciting - some of the Men are doing well and can do even better. While Shoma and Kazuki started a bit slower, we know that they can do a lot better too. Yuma can come back strong from injury, and Sena can have a comeback too! So much talent, and so many possible combinations for the 4CC/Worlds team.

I think it shows in their Universiade picks, too. Kagiyama, Shun, Tatsuya on the main team - none of them had any autumn competitions other than GP, so fair enough. But. Sota's the first alternate together with 'zebra pants' Oshima and Hasegawa (!) . ROFL doesn't even come close to describing my scorn for the sub choices.
Soo... Sota got ignored again, and Sena didn't even make the alternates team. Does JSF have an issue with tall good-looking guys or something? To pick the likes of Hasegawa over Sena? Kao was ignored, too. I do hope JSF makes big amends in the spring, though if the boys are assigned to B events, then SB-wise and WS-wise, the damage is already done.
Are there any tournaments parallel to Universiade that the others could go to?

I think one thing JSF doesn’t want to overlook is a ‘balance’ assignment between the regionals (east: Shun, and west: Yuma and Tatsuya). That might explain how they come up with the list of subs. As for Kao, he’s not yet in the college/university?

@surimi NGL I was surprised by those assignments too. I actually think Sota should have been on the main team, as he is doing so well this season and, at age 22, he might not have another chance to have a Universiade experience as he'll probably have graduated by the time the next one comes around. Whereas, for example, Shun is still 18 so he's likely to still be in university in 2 years.
Kao is not in university yet, so it's fine. But I also think it's weird that Sena is not in the alternates list. JSF really works in mysterious ways...
