I'm such a fan of Lia and Trennt's tango... And usually, not so much a fan of Purkiss's work..
Well, seeing how the cream of ice dancers worked on this, it is not surprising it is so well made...

I love both of their programs this season. I'd really like to see them skate well.

I'll be very interested to see how Bombardier/Mimar stack up against Laurin/Ethier.

I want to see Deanna/Max show up here strong. The international field is so much deeper now, and they need to show they're still in the mix.

Their practices have been going really well from what I've heard. Very excited to see them back in action tomorrow!

I am hoping for some strong skates in part because we have been let down by the singles skaters for a few years Tings don't look much better. I think Deanna and Max though they tend not to get the respect of say the Japanese are in the mix for a medal. They just don't have the best artistry/programs or tricks. However, all the top teams right now are good but not great. If you had the 3 Russians who were not the best we have seen from Russia from the 2022 olympics and the Chinese they would kill the current top teams. Remember even the Japanese were still not in the top 4 or 5 teams and Alexa and her partner woudl at best be fourth. Skating is not what it used to be. At least right now in pairs and I would say dance too. Sorry Chock and Bates do not even belong in the same league as so manh of the world medallists from past and not just gold. Teams who never had a world title likeUsova and Zhulin were better or more impactful. It is sad that Trennt and Lia showed such promise two years ago and now will struggle to stay in the top 8 maybe even ten. They risk being passed by all the Americans, Italians not to mention the other medal contenders. Hopefully we can see some strong skates. But even if you don't like Deanna andMax's programs they have a shot at a world medal.

The sport goes in cycles. I actually preferred the 2018 crop of pairs to the 2022. The 2026 group doesn't seem as great but it happens. Same with dance. I'll give you that but world and Olympic champions get their titles by skating better than their opposition. They do not get their awards by being compared to the best skaters of previous generations. I think it's fair to say that some cycles are better than others but it could get disrespectful to keep pouncing on the current crop of talents by saying that they are not that great etc.

Btw, I disagree that Deanna and Max do not have great tricks. Their twist is top notch. Their lifts are unique, innovative and spectacular. Their death spirals are unmatched in difficulty and execution and even better than anything i have seen from former Russian and Chinese stars.

They need to improve jumps and throws and they have done so and they are world champions because they landed their tricks last year. There are four or five teams that can be on top of the world this year and it will come down to who has landed everything.

Yes, exactly.

And in each era, especially in dance, rules are very different. Each world championship team wins under the rules in place in their time, not those in other eras.

In our era lifts are much more important than they were in the 1980's. & 90's.

Also all those choreo skills reward creativity, something not explicitly scored in most eras.

Meanwhile, timing, which was hyper important in the 20th century up through 2014 has been increasingly devalued so that it is mostly the older teams that consistently skate to the beat rather than the melody.

I think some people have rose-coloured glasses. I would hardly call the Shishkova/Naumov, Totmianina/Marinin, Woetzle/
Steuer eras of pairs anything to write home about. In fact, I far prefer the crop we have now. All the above mentioned were boring as dirt, there was no depth to the field at all, and no originality.

The same goes for the current crop of ice dancers. I think the depth and talent in the field is tremendous, with a large number of teams I enjoy watching on any given day (though maybe not so much in the RD this year, but that's more the fault of the officials who decided on the theme). I may be frustrated with Maddie and Evan getting gifted marks and titles I don't necessarily think they've always earned, but they are a memorable and good team.

And no, I don't miss the current day Russians, in any discipline. And apparently we're going to see them soon enough anyway.

Are the commentators audio and visual slightly out of sync on the stream, or am I buzzed from my two sips of wine and watching synchro? :laugh3:
