2025 U S.Nationals Senior Women's Free Skate

Alysa and Amber are the comedy duo I never knew I needed in my life, but I know now. Alysa was like there were points?; I don't remember any points. Wait, what was the question? Amber bursts into laughter. Liu is just happy-go-lucky, footloose and carefree, and I absolutely love her for the joy and energy she brings.
For me, the part that got me was Amber's reaction to Alysa's comments about scores. She's trying so hard to keep a straight face and be respectful and polite but Alysa's whole, "I don't understand how scores work," was too much for her. The struggle on her face is so relatable for me.

Sarah and Amber are both so well spoken and calm. Alysa's energy is so chaotic and cute. It could really be a comedy sketch.

I agree with you. Im not happy about it either. I wish this was a more honest sport, too. I was just trying to reflect reality. The inflated scores of both leading women unfortunately indicates our wishes were not followed.
Balony. Unfounded conspiracy theories.

Alysa won the SP by 5 points. In the free skate, Amber's planned base values totaled 5 points higher than Alisa's. Amber made one major error, Alysa made three smaller ones. This all balanced out to a one-point win for Amber.

I guess you believe in the Easter bunny and Santa Claus too. You must if you think the top two didn't have grossly inflated scores, as is very common at Nationals. You could be right about who won. My point is that both got away with so many obvious mistakes its hard to know, and its possible they preferred the skater who has a better chance at World's and is undefeated this season.

These insufferable posts dissecting the angles and degrees of jump takeoffs and landings is a big reason why many are turned off from this sport. You shouldn’t have to use a ruler and protractor or endless screenshots to have an appreciation or criticism of the beauty and difficulty of figure skating.

That’s not to say that I don’t want blatantly cheated landings or takeoffs to be penalized, but to the degree that it is being done in this thread is too excessive. I can understand being this meticulous if we are determining an Olympic Champion, an event that only happens every 4 years, in a very close contest, but it’s every event and in every thread now that people are posting these screenshots over and over. It’s also only being done to select skaters and not all the skaters, so there is a clearly biased agenda that is being presented as well. Stop trying to take away the joy of this sport. It’s figure skating, not geometric skating.
These are blatant. In the SP, Amber with her 3A got away with a q for what was an almost forward facing two footed landing. Should have been downgraded. That is the gold medal to Alysa.

Alysa was not without her problems, but Amber got away with more of them and had inflated GOE on everything as well.

9.5 for skating skills from one judge for Amber. Four gave her 9.0. Are they trying to stir up controversy on purpose? That is totally absurd. It mocks the sport. 9.5 is for someone like Hanyu or peak Valieva.

This is easy stuff to judge, that can be identified in real time. Simple stuff that in a JGP they ding every skater for, but in senior events suddenly the tech panel are wildly inconsistent in applying the rules and assessing elements.

This inconsistency is what kills the sport.
LOL, you meticulously dissect the jump landings of Amber and Alysa, but then make a claim that Sarah’s score is not justified and she should have scored higher, yet you don’t post any screenshots of her jumps. This is an incomplete and biased argument, albeit absolutely ridiculous as well. :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:
I just don't have the time, maybe later, but she had really impressive jumps. Her triples are better than Amber and Alysa (if we exclude the 3A which Amber lives and dies by).

Amber has a triple axel. That is what separates her frôm the pack - but does anyone get tired of the anguish? She looks so stressed out before, during and after. It’s hard to enjoy the performance.
In a way it's her identity now, it's sometimes hard to change. Maybe she gets motivation from being someone who overcomes, and it leaves an inbuilt excuse when things don't work out.

I really like how Alysa goes about her skating. It's a genuine passion. Whereas with Amber, if she's not happy with the most consistent 3A in the ISU, defeating the Japanese armada at the GP final, undefeated throughout the season, then it's never will be possible to enjoy her career.

The senior spots are as expected. The junior spots are a bit of a surprise.

You have to admit that the blatantly cheated jump takeoffs need to be addressed though. Pretending that these women are capable of doing properly executed 3/3s when you allow 180 degrees (or more) prerotation is a joke. This unfairly punishes the very few women who jump high enough to actually do them.

Wow, I really thought they'd give a junior worlds spot to Sherry. That's a shame.

This is simply an absurd comment to make and I highly doubt Yuzu and Kamila are going to get their knickers in a twist because Amber Glenn received a 9.5 from one judge at US Nationals. Hanyu and Valieva did not compete at the 2025 Prevagen US Figure Skating Championships. Amber was marked in comparison to Alysa, Sarah, and Bradie, and I certainly don’t think it’s absurd to judge that her PCS should be higher than the 3 of them based on how they all skated here in the FS.

 Amber and Alysa have different personalities and competitive approaches. Alysa is laid back and carefree and is better at shutting off her mind during competition than Amber, although Glenn has tremendously improved in that regard this season. Amber has to really dial in and calmly focus when she competes and her elation releases in the kiss and cry once the pressure is off. That doesn’t mean Amber is unhappy, doesn’t enjoy skating, or is unsatisfied with her results.

I feel like the ice was cursed last night- so may people fell. I’m okay with the scores. Alysa skated very well, but to me it was sloppy- was it the choreography maybe? I just didn’t feel it. Glad that Amber had a stronger free and eked out the win. I’m annoyed Levito is going to worlds though. Worlds will be interesting and I look forward to seeing it.

I don’t like that there is no transparency as to what protocol Levito has to pass to ensure her place on the world team. There should be no gray area or doubt around this return to play protocol.

Here is what the policy is from here on age 3:

To be considered for selection by petition, the athlete must be able to prove competitive readiness by performing complete competition programs (SP/RD, FS/FD) with all planned program elements by a specified date, as approved and reviewed by a monitoring panel to be determined by the International Committee. In addition, U.S. Figure Skating medical personnel must verify that the athlete(s) will be physically ready to compete at the World Championships. If the petition is accepted, the athlete/team will be added to the pool
