So close yet so far.... sigh... only 7.38 more points...John - black tuxedo with sparkly details. Landed opening quad. Fall on the second. Also has dramatic music. Fall on the first 3A. Wait, it's turning into Gangsta's Paradise? Good fight in getting the jumps in the second half. Stumble out of a twizzle in the step sequence. Free 140.11 total 211.62 for the win.
I don't get the love for Aleksa. Wildly inconsistent and truly slow. I don't see much connection with music/audience either... So yeah... I can understand the love for Wesley or for Grayson but not for Aleksa.Missed senior men but hopefully will watch on archive. Too bad for John. So close and so far. But at least he didn’t pop anything - that is good. But SC seems committed to Aleksa Rakic and since Cdns when he pulled out, he has really struggled. Is he still injured? If Aleksa gets a spot at Kinoshita and at SCI, then John and Matthew N should get a challenger. We need to support skater development.
As of this year, men need to CONSISTENTLY (they added that word this year) get 219 domestically or 204 internationally to get a challenger. So far this year, I think only Roman Sadovsky and Stephen Gogolev have met those requirements. Honestly, I feel much more at ease this year with the state of Canadian Men's skating after just watching them at Cranberry Cup. I think Aleksa got a spot because of the fact that he has tech minimums for both 4CC and Worlds and had better results than John Kim and Matthew Newnham last year.Missed senior men but hopefully will watch on archive. The word consistently has not been added this season, tbh, he two documents from last and this season are basically identical. As of this year, men need to CONSISTENTLY (they added that word this year) get 219 domestically or 204 internationally to get a challenger. My hot take is that I think there should be a tech minimum as part of the requirements to get a challenger as well. There should be a benchmark for that because it is the TES that determines if a skater qualifies for 4CC and Worlds. I'd do that for all disciplines tbh. Then Skate Canada will have a higher likelihood of having their skaters get the tech minimums on the first try.
Okay fair enough, "consistently" was there last year, but it has been underlined this season, which is why it popped out to me, implying that it probably will be more strictly followed this year. At least, that is my takeaway from the change. As it happens I have the document from last year still open cause I haven't had time to clean up my tabs and windows in a while lolThe word consistently has not been added this season, tbh, he two documents from last and this season are basically identical.
I initially thought it was newly added as well, this was even discussed at the time in the Canadian skating thread, but I also remember checking the old document with the Wayback machine, and it has definitely been there since at least last season.
I've been thinking about this and I'm wondering if that's the intent behind consistently. If they're able to hit the TES consistently in domestic competitions, then they should be able to do it internationally. It can't be hit the 3A and quads in one competition and then pop/fall on them in the next one.My hot take is that I think there should be a tech minimum as part of the requirements to get a challenger as well.
