2025-26 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 5 - Omsk

Hey all! I'm way behind on this stage, and even last week's, was away and missed Moscow, so lots to catch up !

But a few comments on last skates I did see :)

Zhenya: it's great to see him back and fighting! I like his SP, good music and nice performance to it

Daniil: too bad about the popped Axel, otherwise it looked better than his previous stage

Petr: good jumps and solid skate. But he still finishes way after the music 😪 I'm not sure what the real problem is but at this point it's a structural one, he has already skated this SP lots of times and never once managed to be on time. Huge score, over 105 (I agree with some comments that Russian judging is quite strict this season in general, but here you do see the "Olympics bonus" kicking in if we're completely honest with ourselves, which was actually to be expected)

Vlad: popped jump and quite off skate in general (by his standards of course :)). But he looked shaky during the whole performance, and this quite hurt his choreo too 😞 Hopefully, it was just a bad day and he will bounce back for the FS

That opening combo was so good and then to double. Serious mistake in the SP, but I love this kid. I won't fan the flames of the fanwars because I agree with the RUSFED's decision, but it grieves me that there can be only one at the Os.
I would have been ok with either choice. Both deserved the spot.
Hope the fans are not giving too much heat to Petya. It isn't like the choice is completely unjustified.

There was no choice tbh.

As it's clear that Semenenko or Kondratiuk wouldn't be cleared. And I don't think Dikidzhi would have his coach cleared. He also didn't really improve in PCS in the off-season.

I am glad to see that Mozalev held 4th by the skin of his teeth as always, hope he has a better free tomorrow. Or a free with just one fall or pop. Lol.

I am only finished dance, yakes on Pasechnik/Cirisano. I dunno, I was just starting to think maybe they can become a team, but it wasn't a great competition to be hopeful.

Love Khudaberdieva's comment, hoping that all mistakes had been used up

Have to get some stuff done, then we will keep watching 😀

Petya was the only choice. Just look at their skating scores. Russia wants podium and only Petya can earn it. It is borderline impossible for Vlad to earn podium. His peak is not high enough and only peak matters in this situation.

I have nothing but admiration for Moskvina, but the one issue I often have with her teams is the catch on the twist. Sliusarenko teaches a much better twist.

Hopefully not, though I guess some of it is unavoidable. And if the Fed goes on inflating his scores like today, that will of course end-up causing some backlash, even if people understand why they do it. It's the same that happens with Illia, they may deserve to win but unsustainable crazy scores tend not to fly too well in the end :frown:

Though of course, Petr's case is a bit different because of what is at stakes at the Olympics. RusFed will "help" as much as possible Petr and Adelia with local scores, as that is the only way they might get some sort of "reputation" for Milan. I guess people can understand that this is what the Fed "has to do" and that's why, except big meltdowns, falls or "too big to hide" mistakes, they'll on all odds both be National champs with big scores, etc, but of course this is quite a tricky situation to handle....

Too bad for Vlad. His consistency didn't help him that much.
Petya is indeed the best pick if the goal is the podium. Vlad is probably more top10 material. The pcs by intl judges would be underground.

I'm just worried because based on what I saw in Finland he would have gotten quarters today.
Tech panels are normally not very strict at Olympics from my observations. But this isn't a rule for the first groups.
Still, they weren't very strict towards him at the qualification. Like they didn't downgrade the Lutz that was really bad.

Anyway, his international scores wouldn't be any close to what he got today.
There's such a GOE deduction:
Less than quarter missing (no sign)

His score in Beijing was 93.80. I don't think he gets more than 95 in Milano.
