First, the women's event is a lot farther out from teams then the men's event. Second, she already has an OGM and maybe she wants to focus on the team gold this time. Third, she's not doing 6 or 7 quads in a program. Lastly, her decision is irrelevant to Ilia's decision.Sakamoto is skating both programs for her country. If she can do it, so can Ilia.
If your argument is that it's realistic for a 30 or 34 year old to win an Olympic gold medal in the mens, just...lol. Even 26 is "old" in figure skating years. There's been no men's figure skating champion over 25 years old as far as I can remember.USFS did its job in 2022 and based their decision on their longstanding criteria. No one "left" Ilia off anything. You mean unrealistically it could be Ilia's only Olympics. He told it straight already: he's going for 3 consecutive Olympics. 26,30,34. He has a long view of his Olympic career and I wouldn't expect anything less from someone like Ilia.
By...respecting his preference to only do the short? Did you also criticize Patrick, Yuzu, and Nathan for being "babied" and being a "porcelain princess" for only doing the short?People need to stop babying this guy - it's completely unnecessary.
What people need to do is stop treating athletes like physically invincible robots without any agency who should perform on command.
