Replay Lounge 2026 Olympics | Team Event

Replay Lounge Team
Thought the Women were the best event today, which is something, as it’s my least favorite discipline. Kaori & Lara Naki slayed, and I also appreciated Maddie rising to the occasion (though I could have done without her ungracious reaction to her scores.)

Dance was not a well skated event, with the usual discrepancy between scores and what is presented on the ice.

Really, really, am not a fan of this announcing team, especially the gentleman. Way too much talking, and there’s really no need to hammer home things that are so obvious, even to the casual viewer.
Who are you getting? I’ve got Johnny and Tara. 🤮

So, what are the tie breakers in the Team Event?
Just in case.

I'd vote for the team event to be long-programs only. One program each, do it in one or two days...preferably after the individual events. To me, the current format makes the team and individual events feel repetitive and less exciting. Of course, nobody from the ISU or IOC has contacted me for my option, yet.

I don't understand why cbc decided to innovate with taking out elements names from scoring panel during Olympics from all competitions? Are they trying to boost commentators? But commentators don't call out every element either. What the actual...

They're using the Olympic feed, so they're using the graphics provided by whoever is in charge of that.

On the TV coverage, NBC is using their own graphics, so the could use their own graphics if they felt inclined to do so.

So far... here are the tie-breaker scores

I'd be surprised if anyone improved on the scores they have, except maybe for France.

Italy has 16
Georgia has 15
Canada has 14
France has 13

In other words, Gogolev needs to beat Nika by 2 ranking points (Georgia would win the tie-breaker unless Gogo finishes 3rd) or beat Kévin or be exactly one rank below Kévin.

If Kévin ranks exactly two places above Gogolev, the tie-breaker would be in play. Top five for Kevin and France would be in. 6th place for Kévin (5 points) would bring up France to 14 points like Canada and they would win on the aggregate scores (they have the edge in dance and I doubt men will score less than pairs for Canada).

Of course, there are other scenarios, Grassl could fall way down the rankings while France rises up with Aymoz, but the main possibilities are the ones I have mentioned, granted that my brain is still functioning properly after 4 hours of sleep and a day of coaching.

It is not impossible but I would say that the probability to see Canada in the finals have greatly diminished after day 1.

However, I am actually very pleased with how everyone skated on team Canada. Piper and Paul deserved a higher rank. Maddie did the best she could. I also feel that lowballing Jia has helped Italy to get away and Gubanova didn't deserve to place above Maddie (just my opinion of course) with her minuscule Lutz. So, it is what it is.. Figure skating judges are figure skating judges. Canadian skaters did very well and I am proud of their fight.

Lighting candles for Gogo ! 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

Belinda & Ollie, on the Peacock “no commentary” stream.

Have heard Belinda before, and didn’t mind her so much then, but not feeling her commentary today. Ollie is new to me, but already getting on my last nerve
Wait... if this is the "no commentary" stream, what does the "commentary" consist of?

So, Canada's fate depends on a combination of how Gogo performs plus how Kevin performs.

Well, enjoy the wild ride my friend, because almost anything is possible on that particular roller coaster.

that's one of the options, and most likely where it will happen tomorrow. Gogo needs to beat guys who are ranked much higher than he is. That's just what it is with this format.

It's a big improvement on Chris or Ted.

That's just ridiculous no matter who is responsible. I absolutely hate it

For me, Japanese pair, Gutmann and Gubanova were the highlights. I was surprised that dance didn't feel more exciting. I kinda feel that everyone is more or less holding back?

I winced with Sui/Han had that terrible fall. It was scary.

The frenc woman's costume was a bit much for me. I didn't like it. People should wear exactly what they want, but I was a bit put off by seeing so much of her bottom. I found it distracting from their dance. Love Madonna, love the music.

Kaori's dance was beautiful. I feel like every one really brought it in all disciplines.

Heard from more than one source that Alyssa almost didn't get to the rink in time because the VP of her country was holding up traffic. I think it might explain why she seemed a little tense (which for the rest of us is not tense at ALL).

Looking forward to seeing the other skates today.

I think the math is a bit off. Canada (Stephen) basically just needs to beat Georgia (Nika, which would have Canada in the lead in tie breaker, dance +men) or beat Kevin.

Otherwise Kevin needs to be at least two places above Stephen. France would win the tie breaker in that instance.
