That will be a great fight with Nika, Stephen and Kevin. They are in the the same caliber.
May the best win to qualify for the FS. It's popcorn time!

Malinin might have to start calling himself #UnderrotatedQuadGod, but Kagiyama was certainly the #QuadGod today that is for sure.

Malinin cracked under pressure and should have been behind Gogalev. Failed on 3/3 jump elements. Everything seemed heavy after Kagiyama, he doesn't do anything better than Kagiyama.

The 4F is an underrotation which the tech panel missed (at a minimum a very clear q) but four 4's from the judges and four 3's. There is no integrity.

The 3A seemed like a failed 4A attempt and was heavily overrated but only slightly negative GOE, 4Lz a very clear underrotation which they did call but very messy combo.

He's been so dominant, and even if he has major errors on every jump element in the free he will win he's so far ahead of the competition in the value of his jumps. But the pressure completely got to him today.

Kagiyama was magical today.

For me, this llustrates why I like short programs better than long. In the SP, with only three jumping passes, first, you have to hit all your jumps, and second, you have to deliver on other aspects of the program.

For the LP, in contrast, a big jumper can win just by grinding away at it racking up the points.

Here Yuma's interpretation of the music carried the day, for me.

Japan just the one point behind the USA, Amber will really have her work cut out for her in the free skate. It probably rests on her having a solid skate and not bombing.

I love Yuma's SP. Love. When skated well, I am transported. Also, as I said in the comp thread, I almost never ever listen to music because of skating. I have listened to this version of "I Wish" many many times. Many. :) Thank you, Yuma.

@Mathman makes a good point, when I think of my favorite programs in recent years, many are SPs. They showcase everything a skater can do.

Special energy from the team event brought the best in some and the worst in others... Gosh I love the team event :)
So do I. And we aren't even participating. I loved seeing Marjorie and Zachary. So glad they went back to White Crow, and Stephen was just exquisite today. I love the Japanese, but it shows that their ID team is less capable. Already looking forward to watch what happens tomorrow....

I'd feel better with Alysa also doing the FS you know even if she's not totally clean she will hold it together and keep the US in 2nd place. Nothing can be done with Pairs but K/O need to beat the Canadian team to give them just a bit of a edge going into the singles competition.

I think the U.S. can breathe a little easier now that Chock and Bates have increased the lead over Japan to 5.. Anything can happen, but 2nd for Amber should be enough to seal it.

Belinda & Ollie, on the Peacock “no commentary” stream.

Have heard Belinda before, and didn’t mind her so much then, but not feeling her commentary today. Ollie is new to me, but already getting on my last nerve
I got no commentary on the stream today.

Malinin cracked under pressure and should have been behind Gogalev. Failed on 3/3 jump elements.

He had minor underrotation on his quads and a wonky 3Axel landing, but still kept it upright. That's not "failing on 3 jump elements". Gogalev absolutely should not be ahead. His 4Toe technique is very flawed and his overall skating worse.

Me and free dance is fantastic
The standings for men same. The scores different.
Yuma is great but more i watch more overscored. Did enough to beat Ilia.

Stephen did well.
Britain started it off well.
Vladimir great job keep it going and intrigued
Boyjiang was artistic and flowing
Kevin dramatic
Daniel wonderful but a tad cautious
Ilia great but cautious
Nika great speed and coverage
Yuma great. Covered ice for me a bit rushed. Had artistic but gave up some to focus on jumps
JunHwa artistic . I into music and skating didn't notice his miss axel.

The short emphasizes overall balance as well as doing it correctly
