2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

It's a total mismatch of music and skater. YMMV.

The first section of music had a quiet power that was a good fit for Liza. Then the vocal of Solveig's song started and everything went off the rails. And did I hear Hall of the Mountain King? Please tell me that was an aural hallucination.

I don't like vocals suddenly coming in in the middle of a program, it's usually not edited well and it's just this awkward change. The choreography is so similae to Batwannis Beek, there's that cantolever in the choreo section, the arm waving, I'm so disappointed.

From the GS interview:

Selena Zhao CAN
SP Moon River by John Bayless
LP Puccini’s Turandot performed by Vanessa Mae

Some harsh reactions to Liza's new program. I don't know. I don't think Liza's skating can really ever be fully realized without her jumps. Plus it's a bit early on to expect her to be super comfortable with it in its delivery. I'm gonna wait to see it in an event before I really form an opinion but I'm not expecting a burst of artistic movements to start appearing. Liza is and will likely always be a jumping machine first and foremost.

Tukts program is an eyesore from what I can see of it. Why is she always waving her arms around like an octopus and wiggling her hips? I almost expected her to start belly dancing on the ice. She looks like she's skating an alternate version of last years LP to new music.

nothing wrong about bellydance lols =)
Imho, she would totally hit if she picked up a bellydance music and then did a bellydance program =D

Belly Dance has nothing to do with 'octopus arms' though (and I wouldn't call it hip-wiggling either).

I'd have to agree with the last comment though - looks like some just threw together some alternate moves from last years LP + SP (and actually, quite a few real ones) and then put any random music above it that has zero to do with anything. She could do so much better... :slink:

I liked these arm movements but just in her last year programs, because now it doesn't fit into the music at all.

She does have a few new moves I think, but she doesn't connect with the music nor really fully commit to the choreography. One has to remember though Liza isn't an artist in the true sense of the word. At the core she is a jumping bean and Mishin is paid by the fed for wins at all cost. If we want to see that perfect melding of art and tech we need to camp out for Costner or Mao or some other Russian ballerina not Tuk.

But OTOH, if she really plans to commit to the choreo why show such an altered, weak version of it now

The main issue is not even Tukt not being an artist, but the fact she has no chance to be, really. Mishin most likely wants to up tech content at all costs, and seems that they keep everything else at the level "you did it last year, lets change the order and keep doing so you don't have to learn new stuff and spend more time training 3A".

Maybe she should have kept her last year LP, doing some rehauls to fit the 3A etc.

Let's see how this pans out come September. Will Liza surprise us all or will it be business as usual? Why this was made public so early is the bigger mystery, obviously it isn't the soup yet :rolleye:

Yes I agree. She is not an artist like some others but that doesn't mean she shouldn't even try skating to music.

Nah, this bunch of whinge-pots would just complain it's too much like everything else she's done before. :rolleye:

I try not to judge skeletons of programs too much. I sort of liked it - it didn't grab my attention straight up as "oh, this is special!", but it didn't make me cover my eyes wailing, either.

That was pretty much my feeling since the beginning. One of the thing I wrote about her earlier on was that she need the right development and people to grow artistically. Even when she is much younger, she shows good unique expressions, a sense of self that can be developed into something exciting, but these past years her artistry is stagnant to the same eastern European folk dance arm movements and choreographic tricks. It kind of annoys me, rather than a style, now I just call these lazy arms (Arm movements should consist of shoulder blade, elbow, forearms, wrist, hands, fingers, finger, finger tips. She probably over used 1/3 consistently, and neglected movement with at least 1/3rd of these)

Yet we can see Liza at least tries and struggles to push that aspect by bringing the right people like David Wilson, Jeff Buttle and Stephane Lambiel to help her, but somehow the program for whatever reasons seems to get diluted by the competition time. Many already noted is likely the Mishin cause and effect, but since this is a point game, she has nothing to lose with poorer choreography as long as she land those jumps.

Unless someone else comes along who can do those same jumps with sophisticated choreography to match ;) Then, Mishin's tactics may change.

More news from Mishin's camp:

'In Igora Liza skated a version of ex program to the music combining a classical performance of Ibsen’s opera Peer Gynt and vocals of our great opera diva Anna Netrebko. We think that this can be interesting as we want to present a totally different image in this season programs.
Last season when we worked on the Oriental program it was a version of ex number too but then it developed into the lp. That’s why we are trying a few scenarios now. We have a blues, a free genre where Liza is dancing in retro style, and Peer Gynt. Thus 3-4 versions are considered.''

Ibsen's opera - please give me strength....

Mao for example :) Mishin is confident about his skaters, which is good because he believes in them but sometimes he is maybe TOO confident.
