2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

Briefly looking through Miki and Evan's program lists on Wikipedia I see that both have skated to Carmen, Scheherazade, The Firebird, Espana Cani, and Samson et Delilah. I used to associate The Firebird with Miki Ando so that's my guess but that's all it is, a guess.

Hmm I don't think it's Firebird, Anna Pogorilaya skated a very memorable one last season and S&D has already been done by Ashley and if she does it too there might be too many comparisons. maybe Espana Cani? She's definitely aiming to make the GPF again which is in Barcelona, either that or Carmen

Peng/ Zhang just announced their programs
SP - Come together by goran scholars
LP - pearl fishers by Bizet

Both are chorographed by lori

Apparently Jenny and Dave on TSL know what Gracie's LP music is...Dave mentioned it could be a bit feisty, but he associates the music with Evan Lysacek and Jenny also commented "Miki Ando." I'm not a mental catalog of past programs...any idea what it could be?

I thought Firebird. I remember Dave talking about how much he disliked that piece so I can see why he wasn't so enthused about that music choice.

I don't think it's Carmen because J&D would have probably complained about it much more. Maybe España Cani, but I don't associate that music with Miki or Evan.

But how much more true to himself can it get if he is the one who is in love with the music and choosing it?

It's just a little frustrating to have to constantly point this out. Phillip Mills didn't go to Max and say, "You're doing Nessun Dorma and Black Swan and there's nothing you can do about it".

:agree: I wonder how many have actually *seen* the programs (not that the video goof at WTT made that easy). Before seeing the program, I also was a skeptic; I wanted Max to fit my ideas of Max, rock n roll, exuberant, athletic. Ballet? For Max? I didn't see it.

Then I saw the programs. Very rough, still in progress, but *Max* clearly loves the program. Max is selling the programs. That's good enough for me. (Well, if he fixes those spins, it's good enough for me. ;)But that has squat to do with the theme of the program)

Both Shoma and Max seem to really like the music...so it's better to do a warhorse you really like than something original that you don't.

Out of those, only Firebird is the music I would immediately associate with Miki and Evan.
Scheherazade worked well for both of them, but Michelle or Davis/White would be my first association. Carmen and S&D weren't lucky for Miki - she dropped S&D mid-season and had to withdraw from Worlds while skating to Carmen due to injury, so I'm not sure why Jenny would associate those pieces music with her and not Witt, N/K, V/M, Samantha, etc. (Carmen) and Joannie, Ashley or D/W (S&D). Espana Cani was used by Miki while she was still a novice, so again, not really a flagship program for her (plus, while Espana Cani could make for a fiesty SP, as a LP it would feel a bit repetitive, IMHO).

Firebird could work very well for Gracie, if it was smartly choreographed. Her skating style reminds me a bit of Joannie Rochette back in 2005, and Joannie skated my favourite Firebird ever back then: www.youtube.com/watch?v=17uTwCAUtrw
(choreo by Sebastien Britten. Stunning, especially the finale  ).

Based on what The Skating Lesson I would guess Firebird. The pieces of music that I think of when Evan is mentioned are Firebird, Scheherazade, Rhapsody in Blue and Carmen. Of the three that overlap with Miki, Firebird is the only one I really associate with her. She used it in three different seasons including her last competitive one and its the music she used when she sort of landed a quad sal and won the junior world title.

Plus I also remember Dave mentioning his dislike for the music in the past so it would seem to follow.

Just wait. If it is Firebird Frank and Lori will go ahead and use only this part of the ballet:

:p

If that is the choice of music for Gracie, it doesn't immediately strike me as an obvious or exciting choice for her, but I'll hold my breath until I see the program. I'll still hold out hope that they start looking to the Nicole Bobek canon. Nicole had lines for days that I think both Frank and Lori are into, and they both have a natural buoyancy.

I could totally imagine Gracie skating to this music, plus it would be a nice classical piece I don't remember hearing since '98, save for the part with Mao's old music of course!

I doubt it - Lori's programs for Gracie were never monotonous, as far as the music cut is concerned, I liked them a lot. Round Dance of the Princesses is actually a lovely piece of music, but it doesn't have a moment that would say "ta-da, this is the end of the program!", it just sort of fades out. If used in a combination with Infernal dance of King Kashchei, however, it could make for a voidy program. The worst thing I can think of would be combining Infernal dance of King Kashchei with the Finale - few skaters can match the intensity and it doesn't flow very well even if they do.

I totally agree. But get ready to duck the tomatoes. Tried to say something like that earlier in the thread. Max is a unique skater and contrary to popular opinion I DO like him. I just feel like his music choices haven't been true to himself. He's a dynamic skater and skating to classical music just doesn't get it for me.

Agreed. I understood that he's choosing it to diversify his skating, but I don't like that he's shifting to what the judges find palatable. He's kind of losing himself in all of it. He can still be lyrical/expressive without doing classical warhorses.

I hope it's not Firebird or Carmen. She'll go from pageanty to predictable. Like, come on, she needs to mix it up and take a few risks artistically.

Again, CSG, how is Max losing himself when he is skating to classic music that he has dreamed for years of using for his programs??

Max's longstanding desires to use those classical pieces are his overriding motivation. Not choosing what judges find palatable.

Actually, the more I think of it it could be Firebird since I wouldn't associate Espana Cani or Carmen with Miki. Evan is so forgettable to me I associate like nothing with him (okay maybe Scherazade because of the Olympics but I would name a million others before him). I think Firebird would be a terrible idea for Gracie but I don't think she has much of a choice in her music other than her exhibitions. POTO last season was not her idea and she said in an interview that she grew to love the music but I think she was just being polite.

I actually hope it's none of those choices but I think Espana Cani would be the lesser of all the evils. I don't think I can stomach another major skater/team doing Carmen sorry haha

From Twitter:
Han's New programs : SP: Sing, Sing, Sing by Louis Prima ; FS: Romeo + Juliet soundtrack ;
https://twitter.com/HanYanFanVan clips of his programs viewable here.
All hail Han Yan and Warhorse music.

-I think a VEST would be the best costume for the SP...can he fit a vest into Romeo and Juliet? :laugh2:

There's the R&J, not Nino Rota's warhorse but still R&J, hopefully he'll perform it well :) . I haven't been keeping track of this thread as much as I should, but is it the first one that's been confirmed?

I don't know - I'm thinking something like this?:

I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "vest" exactly, but it should be close enough to make him happy.;)
