2018 Olympic Figure Skating Short Dance

The judging will kill ice dance. They are driving a wooden stake through its heart competition by competition.

ugh, I am tired of seeing how many other teams are allowed to mess up their programs getting high scores, but Maia and Alex need fight for each damn point as if their lives depend on it. I can not wait for them to retire so I can retire with them from this joke.

I definitely felt that they were underscored

I just rewatched Tessa and Scott, their no touching steps is surreal, their edges and steps and turns are perfectly synchronised. Literally Olympic level.

Looked like they were back in business with their money element, the equal care they put there about execution AND making it look alluring, effortless, organic on the outside is second to none.

I have to agree that the Shibs are getting dinged by this tech panel. I found Hubbell/Donahue messy in spots but, I guess, masked it with sexy moves. Happy for Anna and Luca being in the last group. Life is Beautiful deserves a special place. I think this will be an exciting final with the French and Canadians duking it out and a tight race for third.

In spite of the ridiculous judging (don't get me started on P/C's errors), I'm so, so proud of V/M and I'm looking forward to seeing them skate their FD lights-out. I hope they take a deep breath, tell each other it's their last competitive skate and just go for broke. I want to see that skate. A fitting cap to the competitive career of these legends.

I asked the same thing after Laurine Lecavelier's FS at Euros. But the same happened to Yura Min in the TE.

I think it's because the skaters don't practice enough in their costumes? Gabriella's was clearly redone. The coaching staff and management should really be held accountable for these kind of problems, in my opinion. But sometimes it's just a fluke. [emoji17]

I suspect that with Olympic nerves you don't quite get the catch done all the way maybe.

Do people really not understand skating skills? Some of these comments are absolutely baffling.

The French are in a completely different league than anyone 3rd and lower.

I would dread a sport that rewarded the tiny skating of the Shibs and C&B over P&C. C&B should get lower SS marks than Guignard and Fabbri if we are being honest.

How on Earth did Papadakis/ Cizeron have higher PCS than Virtue/ Moir? Were the judges and I watching the same thing? Virtue/ Moir looked crisp/ clean/ completely dialed into their choreography and execution. Papadakis/ Cizeron looked less crisp/ less clean/ and (understandably) a bit distracted from the theme. Surely that distinction should count in things like Performance and Interpretation. I don't think there's much of a difference in skating skills, but I much prefer the flow of the Canadians' program. IDK. Those marks seem pretty questionable to me.

I actually don't have any issues with the closeness of Hubbell/ Donohue and the Shibs b/c I thought the Shibs were so much more effusive and free in their interpretation than they sometimes are. Plus they had great speed. Hubbell/ Donohue had great power and coverage, and (for obvious reasons) a more interesting connection to one another.

Can someone make a good argument for the scoring being right for the top 2 and wrong for Hubbell/ Donohue & the Shibs? Ice dance is hard.

Some of the comments that I saw on Facebook after Bradie Tennell lost out in the team competition are comparable

It was mentioned on NBC that Madison Chock seemed to be favoring an ankle as she exited the ice area. Any news on that? It would be sad for any skater to have an injury at this point.

It's not really just Ice Dance, though. It's just more visible and impactful in ID because it's easier to maintain a relatively high level of consistency. Judges just can't bring themselves to judge exclusively what happened that day, even if it's the 1/100 performance that a top name faltered.

I don’t think Tessa hit that choctaw well enough to get the level 4, BUT the French’s PCS were overscored for that tentative skate. I think the scoring differential is correct as it stands. Neither team can afford mistakes, and they can have AT MOST one level 3, if they hope to win gold.

Well, I agree that CB's skating skills are not top 10 worthy, but PC are no better than Shibs, that's for sure.

Shibs have tiny skating?

I don't think it's necessary to question anyone's intelligence.

You're focusing on skating skills but the score is more than that. I love P/C but the replays clearly show Gabriella being very distracted several times during the program. That was not reflected in the marks. Perhaps P/C should still be in second but the marks should have reflected what happened on the ice. That's a valid complaint with a complete understanding of P/C's wonderful skating skills.

I don't really consider that a controversy. That was just sour grapes from Canadian media.

Omg, Tanith is going in for the kill while discussing B&S.

:scratch2: get ya story straight - it began with an article in the French sports mag L'Equipe - deal between Russia & USA ...
