It wasn’t a great skate.

The FS scores was fine. The SP score wasn't IMHO. They gave other skaters a lot more grace when it comes to technical calls. Lindsay has to learn to be confident. It is normal to struggle a bit as you grow, but Lindsay lost her confidence with her URs. Her timing is off. I want to believe she will turn it around next year.

This program does her no favors. She has amazing jumps when she is confident.

That was such an impressive recovery after a disaster of a start for Elyce. I still don't love this program - I feel like it doesn't let her personality shine through like in the short - but the choreo sequence is really epic. Putting that 2T on the 3Lz was so smart to avoid a +REP call, but only getting in 2 combos will hurt her chances of moving up. All in all, even though this wasn't the Nationals she would have hoped for, I feel like I've seen Elyse really grow mentally throughout this season, and I hope she can come back stronger next season.

Elyce. Pretty dress and program. A few mistakes but she never gave up.

Elyce has marvelous skills but zero expression facially. This music has a tragic quality to it and I see none of that from her. I think her early success has been more of a burden than a help.

I think, for Elyse, this season is all about dealing with pressure. She had such a strong start to the season and she hasn't maintained it. She has the goods though and she's still soooo young.

to be fair, though, a lot of the calls are deserved, those jumps were clearly under. I totally agree about the harsh judging in the short though. Since it's Nationals, I probably would have knocked off a few q's in this free skate, but that's putting band-aids on a bullet hole. I really hope she can come back stronger, and I'd love for her to keep this program for next season, as I think it has so much potential.

Oh, definitely there were issues. I think the problem is that the judging isn't being applied 100% fairly.

I am loving Mia Kalin - she has a quiet confidence and elegance to her movement.
She looks very natural when she skates.

I have a controversial opinion about Mia. I like that she has new coaches and is working on her SS. But, I actually think she should still do her 4T. Her toes are so just much better than her flips and lutzes. If she did a 4T, she could do one less flip or lutz. Her 4T was her best jump. Forcing her to do more flips and lutzes isn't helping her IMHO.

This was also a bit of a tough skate for Mia - she'll get rotation calls on her opening combo, as well as all of her jumps in the second half. I do think her presentation skills have improved so much since she switched coaching teams, and I really hope she continues on this trajectory - she has so much potential, I love the lines she creates.
