Patrick Chan

I thought I wouldn't cry.... but I did... of course, I wasn't expecting anything else in terms of his announcement... but still... :sad21:

A true Legend of the sport.

This retirement video really hurt me... it's shot on Kits beach, place I first went to, right after getting my luggage to my apartment when I moved to Vancouver.... I was living a few blocks away... I had never seen the Pacific.... it was such a special moment for me... it made me believe that whatever would happen in Vancouver, the beach would always be there for me.... and then it surprisingly was.... I moved a couple times after that and ended up on other beaches ;)

A few months before moving back east, I did a "beach" pilgrimage.... every night I could, I would go out and walk on a beach, watch the sunset, breathe in the Pacific air, and fill my heart and memories with the beautiful moments I had lived in Vancouver. Seeing Patrick, starting his new life right on that same beach made me cry again....

My username on this forum has finally reached full circle. Patrick will 4ever be part of my memories when it comes to competitive skating. I had never connected so much to a figure skater though I have had many favourites over the years. Patrick brought a new dimension to skating with his blade work, effortless and powerful skating , beautiful and textbook jumps, and more importantly, his full body movement matching the music perfectly. To me, he remains unmatched when it comes to the most even blend of artistry and athleticism.

I knew this day would come.... Thankfully, I will see you in a couple weeks at Stars on Ice... which may help with letting you go.

I love you Chiddy!

^^^Thank you for your heart felt post 4ec. You have been such a faithful fan of Patrick's. It is amazing to me how you always kept an open mind on appreciating other skaters, even if he was always your #1 favorite. Hopefully you will continue to have opportunities to see Patrick skate, although I know the chances will be a lot less. I think we haven't heard the last of him, by any means. Will we see him at competitions at the boards with other skaters? Stay tuned!

Tough day bud. Thanks for being his biggest fan and for representing both Patrick Chan and his legacy, with class and enthusiasm!

You guys, I was fine, tears-wise, until I saw this!!!      My fan heart is bursting with...what??? I guess it's pride and gratitude with a touch of sadness, and yet I'm happy too. Thanks, everyone, for your posts from the heart. IT'S ESPECIALLY NICE TO HAVE YOU BACK, 4everchan - the one and the only!!! :yay: Don't worry, my long post is still in the works (it will be a couple of posts, actually), but for now, I decided I had to post this "reaction moment" about the video. I wasn't going to post anything more until those long and reasonable posts were finished, but the video demanded a response, so here I came. ;) This is exactly what happened when I saw Patrick's "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" Ex.

you know ;) i think i am not even close to be his biggest fan ;) maybe the most vocal one though :) i am thinking here about vivley who has worked tirelessly making Patrick's fan site... that's dedication.

I think Patrick brought the fight in me since I couldn't understand why he wasn't everyone's favourite. I mean come on! He's the best ! :) even retired, nobody matches his skating ;)

i agree with everything you say.. except kits beach. kits beach is not a beach. vancouver doesn't have beaches

got to see it (reruns)

it was good....the main part : kids and parents : chiddy tells you to just enjoy skating... no need to be competitive and master quads at 13...

Here's an article on IFS summarizing and quoting from Patrick's retirement speech and showing where his mind and heart is right now. I also saved the speech because it might disappear from Periscope soon. Patrick's words, while wonderful, always only tell part of the story. :)

To all of you forever PC fans including skate figuring, violet bliss, forever chan, osmond4gold, golden, spiky durian and Coriana we have enjoyed the journey and what a glorious one it was...the ups the downs, the exultation the tears.
Our boy has become a man. Cried during his speech.

I look forward to seeing him SOI next month.
I have been watching his programs from the very beginning.

It has been a wonderful ride with him and you all.

skatingfan4ever, thanks for this video!

Is there anywhere a full text of speeches? My English is bad, I understood only the main points from this video (maybe the reason is that I burst into tears two or three times :palmf: )

I have not found one. I am willing to do one this weekend when I have time. I hope you won't mind being patient with me. :)
