Really? From the protocols it looks like he missed the 4T (-3 GOE) and singled the 3A.

Also looks like Jeff missed the 3A.

I just wish I could see it all on (US) TV, but will have to wait until they're posted on youtube.

Say, is there something in the water in Canada? The male skaters all seem so handsome!

Saw Sandhu's performance. He was totally and inexplicably, to my mind, held up. Both Chipheur and Sawyer should have been in front of him. The rest of his skating did not make up for the fall on his combination — even if he did turn the quad — and the popped axel. I'm kind of disgusted. What do young skaters have to do, then, to get ahead of this guy?

I just watched Chris Mabee skate and that was fantastic! what a skate!


Also glad to see that a fellow newfie had such a great skate! Way to go Joey!! I can remember him being on the provincial team with me and he was such a tiny guy, now look at the man he has become and the brilliant skater!!

I have no idea what the concerted effort to hold Sandhu up at this point is. He is no longer an international hope of any kind, and we have Buttle as our top international hope anyway. We have so many good up and comers who could benefit from the interational experience. So if Sandhu skates well enough I have no problem with him making the team but he now should have to earn it, with no favors from the judges at this point. Buttle's score was a bit of a gift but at the same time I understand the judges desire to hold him up in Canada, Sandhu I dont get it, there is no longer any incentive I see to prop him up.

The so-called rising star 'Patrick Chan' seems to have that similar Sandhu symdrome.

Very dissapointing to see Chan's skate tonight but I am not sure if that is typical for him or not. Just a case of the nerves I think.

I couldn't agree more! You took the words right out of my mouth! He was slow, his spins weren't any better than Sawyer OR Chipeur and he fell AND singled! It makes me so mad! He shouldnot be anywhere NEAR THE podium!!! Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting!

I love Chris Mabee's SP so I'm happy he performed it well and I'd like him to stay strong for the LP, as well. Can he maintain consistency on his jumps for an entire 4 and a half minutes?

Go Jeff! Too bad he missed the 3A, but ah it's so nice to see that he's competing again. I'll try to download his program if I can find it.

Also good look to Chan and Sawyer in the LP.

Loved Jeff's choreography - so sophisticated and used every nuance of the music. He really used his whole body on the footwork sequences. I hope he can get his axel back in time for worlds. I don't know how he can get a PB though when he fell on the triple axel. I guess this is considered his best program ever(?)

I was so happy for Chris! He skated lights out! I loved the program! Very entertaining. I really want him to make the world team. Did Kurt Browning choreograph this program? It was very Kurt-like (that's why I loved it so much!) and he looked GOOOOD in those pleather pants!

I agree that I hope Eman is finally left off the world team. He's done. Let someone else get the experience in time for Olympics. If SC was smart, that's exactly what they would do. Maybe they think that with the Olympics in Eman's home city (Vancouver) he'll rise up? But it's not fair to reward him for skating like crap and not reward younger skaters for skating amazing!

I'd love to see the world team - Buttle, Mabee and Chipeur - oh wait - how many do we get to send again?

I get a kick out of hearing that Sandhu's done. I guess that 5th place at Worlds last year (4th in the LP) is quickly forgotten.

Sure he was held up. It's not like Buttle was overscored or anything.

Sandhu had a great Worlds but even that was revealing. Close to Sandhu's absolute best skating was not good enough to stand on the World podium for the first time last year even with Plushenko gone, with Lysacek passing him in the final free skate to win the bronze despite one of the personal best performances for Sandhu. Sandhu is done in a certain sense, last year was his final year among the elite group internationaly at all, his days of winning some GP events or as any outside medal hopeful at Worlds are over now, and his spot on the World team is no longer a lock.

He is now fighting to hold onto a spot on the World team against a group of up and coming skaters, and that is how it should be, he should only get one of the final spots to Worlds for men if he earns it with his skates. Buttle has some things to work out but he is the undisputed king of Canadian mens skating and the only one whose spot on the team is all but reserved.

imo, Buttle and Sandhu were both held up, but at least Buttle completed more than one jump! I don't think Emanuel will do anything big on the world stage either. He's had so many chances and hasn't done it. Mabee should have been ahead of Buttle as well and I think maybe even Sawyer and Chipeur (although Chipeur had some bad spins) should have been ahead of Sandhu. I hope Emanuel only gets to go to Worlds if he skates well, and they don't hold him up and send him instead of say, Mabee. I'll be so pissed.

I do agree that he needs to be treated the same as others and earn his spot to Worlds. It reminds me of a couple of years ago when Buttle missed out on the World team after a poor Nationals where he actually had a decent excuse (food poisoning that contributed to some serious weight loss). Sandhu should be treated no different.

OK I see what you are saying. Don't get me wrong I was hoping Sandhu would get that elusive World medal last year and was dissapointed his overall efforts fell just short.

I agree everyone should have to earn their spots. I did not feel Sandhu earned 3rd place tonight, and I was also surprised Buttle managed a new PB even with such a major mistakes as a fall on his triple axel. We will see what happens in the long program.

Buttle might have been hald up slightly, but there's still only 3? points between Mabee and Buttle and Buttle's program was spectacual, one of the best ever.
Sandhu IMO needs to go, off the podeum, off the world team. Take up a pro career, he'll do better there. Let someone else have a chance.
Why are people starting to write off Chan? He's only been landing the 3A for a year, I think. It's the only jump I've ever seen him pop. Give him a chance, he is only 16, barley and his footwork and over all presentation are world class.

I don't think anyone is writing him off - at least I would hope not. He's still so young and has SO much natural talent. It's his first nationals without Ozzy. Give him time.

It might not have been this discussion but there were several people somewhere dubing him the new Sandhu.
