2025 Canadian Nationals: SR Women's Free Program | Jan 19, 2025

What Canadian record. We definitely have seen higher scores - short, long and overall.
Not under the +5 system. The previous Canadian record was Maddie's own 198.24 from 2022 Nationals with a higher SP score but a lower FS score.
This is only the second 70+ SP score and third 130+ FS score of any Canadian woman after the change from the +3 to +5 system, and technically the second 200+ score (if you add up both scores of the Olympic team event) - Maddie is the one who achieved all of them.

What Canadian record. We definitely have seen higher scores - short, long and overall. There were no super hard elements completed that were a first. Others have won m ore national titles. I liked Schizas new free. The costume I guess being in pink and an Asian good freeskates frm the top 3. I would love tto see Madi skate clean Madi is Canada's hope right now she has the speed, style and when on her jumps are great. The other ladies re a bit heavy andmore laboured with their skating.
There's no need to be negative about the event after it just finished. It was anticipated for a good reason and there were a lot of good skates in it compared to previous years.

It was the score. Maddie wasn't expecting that it would be over 200. That's why I was laughing at her reaction to them announcing it.

I feel guilty for laughing at this because I have weak throwing skills of my crowns, so I often fear about results
Oh man, I still remember the time when I tried throwing a plushie onto the ice for Team Koko, but it ended up on a judge's laptop instead. There have been a couple of other incidents like that, but I try not to worry too much. 😅

Perhaps a little early to say so, but I think she could easily keep this program for next season as well, there's plenty of room for more choreography and refinement as she gets more comfortable with it.
I think that's the plan.

Just here to say that my predictions got hammered by this event. I was in second place until it all happened haha. But I prefer Sara Maude getting a silver here than the medal I may have received at the game hehe
My predictions are a disaster zone. I think I might have full marks for pairs, but the less said about the two singles events the better.

So did mine lol. . I actually had Madeline in 4th thinking she would mess up her FS again. But she pulled through and wow Katherine and Sarah didn’t disappoint either! well
done to all👏

I had Maddie in first
.. but uliana and fee Ann were also in my top five. Sara Maude finishing second also meant no points for me haha.. got 25

Yeah I got perfect in pairs and am on track to do well in dance (knock on wood) but not believing in Roman made my men’s predictions even worse than they might’ve been… and I’m probably not much better in women…

Wow!! This was my favourite competition at Nationals. The Senior Women’s competition was fierce.
Last year we only had two skaters over the domestic benchmark of 166 at Nationals. This year, SIX skaters surpassed this benchmark. With two Novice skaters (Lia and Ksenia), the gold and silver medalists from juniors waiting in the wings!! Wow 👏
Also, 17 skates over 135 shows the consistency of these top skaters. 135+ was required to make it to Nationals and 17/18 did it again.

Maddie was perfect. But, the 1A’s. How many did she do? Three 1A’s??? She needs to practice axels. But, this performance I can see scoring 190+ at Worlds. This is what we need.

Sara-Maude 👏 lived up to her expectations of medalling at home. I didn’t think she had it in her to podium. I thought she would place 4th as she usually makes more mistakes on the free skate. This performance was similar to what she produces at 4CC. I’m so happy for her
@saine she peaked here and has basically secured her spot for 4CC and Skate Canada during the Olympic season. Wow!! What a delight.

Katherine was doing so well until that final 3Lo. It almost cost her a podium spot. To me, she is second best skater from Canada. She was a bit better at Warsaw. I’m glad she gets to go to 4CC.

Kaiya 😭
She deserves 4th. I thought the judges were generous with the top 4. Maddie was 190+, Sara-Maude, Katherine and Kaiya should have scored 170+
I see so many improvements the height on her 3Lz, 3Lo, 3S is wow!!
She needs to leave out the triple triple from the free skate. 3F 2T is better with an option to go for an individual 3T as a separate jump.
I hope they give her Junior Worlds. One more chance at Juniors and then she can focus on Seniors next season.

Breken 👏 was the highlight for me. From 18th last year, to 5th this year. She has improved so much and I love that smile. She truly enjoys skating and that is why she is one of my three favourites.

Sr. worlds - Maddie (unless Katherine or Sara Maude beats her at 4CC with a 185+ score)

4CC - Maddie, Sara Maude, Katherine
(alt. Breken)

Jr. Worlds - Kaiya, Lulu
These are our skaters that both placed tenth to give us two spots, the past two seasons.
(if Lulu is not ready, Kara); Kara’s on an upwards trajectory with two 160+ skates at Challenge and now Nationals)
(Alt. Breken)

This only leaves my darling Breken with no international event 😭😭😭😭
(The only skater surpassing the domestic benchmark with no assignment). They could send her, but, chances are they won’t send two “older” Junior skaters.
