Frankly, I'm finding this season of AI to be a snoozefest. I'm not rooting for anyone. No one seems to improving as each week progresses - lots of up and downs, but no one's taking the lead. It's like watching a race amongst nags. JMHO.
The previous seasons of AI were Cinderella stories. Amateur gets chance to seek dream. At the beginning, there are so many - a couple may stand out, but the winner is not obvious. Once the final 10 are picked, it becomes a horse race. During AI 1, Tamayra started out strong and then stumbled. Kelly started out back with the pack, but moved up as each week progressed. Sorry, can't come up with a reason for Gaurini's 2nd place finish. During AI2, Ruben was endearing. Clay was the 'swan' story from geek to idol. Kim Locke - again, she started as the back of the pack and moved in for a strong finish.
As for Simon, I agree with him most of the time. He's harsh, but so is the industry and fans are fickly. If anything, his criticism/advice will help the performer get a thicker skin and/or improve. At least Randy can give some advice, too - but Paula's too much the cheerleader. No producer will be so nurturing after so many weeks of ok performances.
So, why do I watch? Hope to see the 1st glimmer of superstar and also because there isn't anything else on that appeals to me on Tuesday nights.
