Women's FS - 2022 Olympics: Thoughts?

Well, it seems like lots of people here and in other places want non-russian girl to medal. I guess they happy now. Big congrats to you guys. Be proud of yourself.
I personally just hope that this is last medal that non-russians can get. And assuming ISU will finally raise age which will completely kill women's FS in lots of countries, and knowing that we (Russia) have tons of girls of every age ready - that what going to happen.
Sounds like more poor sportsmanship. If they raise the age how will Eteri ever get someone to the podium?

I don't know how people have the audacity to call what Trusova was going through a tantrum after all these kids are put through and the pressure they're in to be first by their own families and entire country and fans. Adults sitting at home comfortably. You should be ashamed. She was in distress and you lack basic empathy. I guess you never broke your bones literally or worked 12 hours a day for years while putting up with Eteri and her crew meanwhile being a child!

Valieva and Trusova looked broken and you all here judging.

Valieva needed the support of her coaching team through this entire debacle, and they let her hang to dry in the wind. No wonder she self-destructed in the FS. No one wanted to see that.

And once again, her coaching team wasn't there to comfort her. If they didn't succeed in sweeping the podium, it is their own fault. First, for their complicity in doping Valieva, and second for deserting her when push came to shove.

I'm kind of glad Trusova let loose on them. Someone had to take them down from their smugness.

I suspect Anna is doing perfectly fine but as a fan I have to laugh. She wins Olympic gold and her teammates still take the spotlight over her! The only time she ever was the center of people's attention was the end of last season.
She will be fine. It was the same with Alina at last Olympic´s. Anna was always in the shadows of the others. But that hasn´t done her any harm. Look where she is now.

There is one entity to blame, if blame there is, for Kamila’s meltdown.

A coaching team and a fed that cared more about shiny gold than the mental health and well being of the skater.

She should never have been skating. Her team and her fed should have been advised her to withdraw with dignity and grace.

If Sasha truly said “I hate”, Sasha was the only mature one there.

What we just watched was horrible.
A bunch of bullies broke a 15 years old and we watched it in real time.
Journalists, MOC & ISU (because yeah, presumption of innocence is not a thing, lets punish everybody), internet trolls.

Hope all the bullies burn in hell.

Shame. Shame. Shame.
Eteri and her team broke her 15 year old skaters. You are crying on a wrong grave.

And this marks a day I thought would never come. I agree.

Honestly, the drama aside, there was cool things, like Kurakova’s climb. There was an annoying thing, with Gubanova scored too low, and there was Sakomoto’s skate and You’s 3A for more joy. I wish I could like Higuchi more with that gorgeous 3A, but her choices of characters and music don’t strike a cord with me.

I think Gubanova is the biggest discovery for me this Olympics, because I missed her in competitions while she was sitting out.

Gubanova was again wuzzrobbed :bang:
I will sound really selfish but I am glad that this event is over and congratulation to all skaters who were able to deliver under this pressure.
I am quite curious what Sasha next move will be, I know that everyone is talking about her going to Raf, but I would prefer if she would go to Zueva to work on her basics.

Wanting certain countries to medal or rather wanting your faves to medal is normal. And higher age limit will on the contrary save women figure skating. Hopefully less broken skaters, psychically and mentally, will have to endure such terrors.

You know, I remember the games in 1994 but, this experience was much more emotional. I still see Kamila as a victim in this story and to see a young girl with the light seemingly gone from her eyes was the final dagger in my Olympic experience. I won't even save this on my DVR. At least the ladies event.

I did not watch, as this competition is a farce. I may go back and watch specific performances that people feel were good.
My first reaction on seeing the protocols was that this was a very convenient result for those who would like to sweep this under the rug. They were able to award the medals (even though, for anyone with their heads not firmly buried in the sand, there have to be serious questions about anyone coached at Sambo-70) and avoid a bigger spectacle. I just hope this doesn't lead to the whole thing being buried. This was a wake-up call for serious reform, which has been needed for years.

Sometimes, hard work, determination, the will to win, an oversized heart, and nerves of absolute steel overcomes all disadvantages on paper.

Sometimes, slow and steady wins the race, not flash and fireworks.

Should have known, the more the spotlight was away from the reigning Olympic Gold Medalist (and that will never be tiring to type out), the more likely she was to win.

If we kept track of all the praise Anna posts here, I’ll be stunned if I wasn’t near the top of the list. My admiration and respect for her is limitless. Never Count Anna Out. Or continue to count her out and end up on the short end of the stick. Either one.

Can’t say that that bundle of sunshine Kaori being a medalist doesn’t warm the heart. Even one as cold as mine. Haha

As for Trusova, typical storm in a teacup reaction from the fans. Why should she be happy with second? She was there to win and her reaction was justified. It wasn’t a tantrum, it was a release of emotion after a hard season. Congrats to Sasha too for being a pioneer in this sport.

There is only one gold and more than one person that wants it. So the math doesn’t work out for everyone. Only one can cry tears of joy.

As for Kamila, this event doesn’t define her. You can’t take away the thrills she provided in her career no matter how hard you try. Plus the vultures that are proselytizing now will be gone soon so she can go back to her life. That’s the big positive out of this mess.

And, sadly, @Scott512 pessimism regarding Kamila being able to overcome the strain ended up being right on the money.
