Women's FS - 2022 Olympics: Thoughts?

And exactly what one would expect from Russians protecting a coach that produces medalwinners, regardless of her Draconian measures and heartless treatment of children.
“Draconian measures” and “heartless” from the coach are sometimes needed to produce champions. Coaches are there to coach, not be loved or be a friend. Coaches aren’t parents, they are there to do their job. Any coach, in any sport.

These same children and parents of children willingly beat her door down to enter her rink, and who return near months after they leave her because the grass in not always greener on the other side. But this part always gets left out for some reason. I wonder why.
Everyone goes in knowing what this is all about. And yet there are no shortage of people willing to do it. For me, that’s where the debate ends.

It’s not rocket science, if the school didn’t have any students willing to go there, it would close on its own. And then “evil” Eteri will go away.

And I have to say this. Let the Russians train their athletes the way they want. It’s their country, their federation. And let the athletes be trained the way they want.

Even by doping them (assuming it's the case here) ?
You obviously haven’t read any of my other stuff (which already makes you smart), but I’m not against drugs in sports for adults willing to take them.

Nor do I consider it cheating, unethical, dirty, immoral or any other negative word you want to use.

But that’s neither here nor there. The legend that is the Golden Girl is clean as a whistle and that is who we should be celebrating!

I don't think "draconian" measures are ever justified, and not with children, in particular. Look at what happened with the "champion-producing" Karolyis in gymnastics. It is no surprise that sexual exploitation happened in a culture where minor athletes were under the complete control of their demanding coaches and afraid to do anything that would cause them to fall out of favor. We have seen many instances of coaches who have produced champions without being "heartless" or "draconian:" Frank Carroll, Rafael Arutunian, Brian Orser, John Nicks, to name a few. I would even add the legendary Russian coaches, Moskvina and Mishin, to that list.

Don’t know anything about gymnastics, don’t watch it, don’t follow it, will never follow it so I can’t add anything. Except that these disgusting sexual predators need to not only be locked up for good, but also the dads should be able to get 5 minutes alone in a room with them.

Hopefully these sub-sub humans never infiltrate figure skating.

As for this sport, the people you mentioned never operated under the spotlight Eteri has (and if they did I’m certain they would be found to have done “draconian” and “heartless” things as well) and Eteri has a better coaching record than all of them you mentioned combined, when it comes to the ladies’ discipline.

She is perennial coach of the year for a good reason.

To everybody who criticized Sasha's “poor sportsmanship“ today: A sincere f*** off.
If that is not poor sportsmanship, I don't know what is. There is no need to sugarcoat it, it was unacceptable and I am not surprised that people criticize it. People shred Boikova to pieces for much less of a 'show'. It seems that some can get away with it and some don't. That behavior could be justified for a 7 year old. Sasha is not 7, she is 17. She is not a child anymore, she is a young woman, almost adult. She CHOSE that path, that sport, that exposure to public. The whole situation was difficult for everyone and she totally lost it. She contributed to ruining Anna's golden moment.
In such tough moments you really show what you are made of and what kind of person you are. Being devastating? Crying? That is totally OK. But this behavior? No, thanks. Look at Evgenia in 2018. She was devastated, but handled it with grace.

Sasha can only blame herself for sabotaging her gold with unwise 3A decision in the SP.

The United States has a law called the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act which would actually allow the US government/FBI to prosecute Eteri and her team if they wanted to.

It’s talked about in this Forbes article
I think that Draculus' question is not about prosecution but about investigation (which, after all, is what the FBI does). How would they go about conducting this investigation? Subpoena witnesses from the Eteri camp? Read the same media pronouncements that we are reading?

I’m not exactly sure how the investigation would go. The article makes it sound like USADA would have to press charges in order for the investigation to happen. My guess is that if RUSADA and WADA conclude their investigations and decide not to do anything, USADA may decide to press charges then. I obviously don’t work for the FBI so I have no idea how they investigate something like this though

There is no evidence of "draconian" tactics of the coaches I mentioned. Eteri's tactics have been known to fans long before she was under the Olympic spotlight.

The two first groups were big downers apart from Kurakova - this is really the story of her season, messing up the short and then having to deliver in the free.

The third group made up a little bit, even Brezinova who improved her SB a whopping 15 points! Yelim Kim had turned from cardboard on ice into an almost expressive skater! Ditto for Loena Hendrickx - the first time this program seemed to make sense for me with proper articulation and attention to detail. Gubanova and Liu were also great, but that was kind of expected. Mariah Bell did a standout interpretation of her Hallelujah - that step sequence especially was pure gold.

The last group was not bad either despite all the drama before and after. Young You was another case of cardboard to expression surprise. Wakaba was just glorious from the first moment on and I have a hard time understanding what I see (and also a lot of other people) that the judges refuse to see (well, apart from Judge nr. 7, Bernhard Just from Austria: 9.25, 9.25, 9.50, 9.25, 9.25, easily the highest PCS she got). At least they let her have a clean 3A. Trusova is a modern day version of Bonaly - all tricks, but really nothing beyond them (her tricks are better than Bonaly's, though) and a mistaken belief that she can win with the tricks only (oh, and being a poor loser). Shcherbakova was her usual self, but managed also to will the quads out of her system. My highest GOE for the judges goes again to Judge nr 7: 9.00, 9.00, 9.25, 9.00, 9.00. By far the lowest PCS Anna got.

Kaori was the queen of hearts for me. I have thought this choreo and theme were far beyond her skills as a performer, but this time she got even "fierce" almost right. I was happy to see her get the bronze! (And again a shoutout to Judge Nr. 7: 9.75, 9.50, 10.00 (!), 9.75, 9.75. Nomen est omen is so right in his case!)

And Kamila... Breaks my heart to see such an incredible promise and talent probably getting wasted for good.

And yet, she has no problem getting students. And even less of a problem getting students to return to her.

Plus, draconian is in they eye of the beholder. Her methods are her methods. Her school, her rules. You are there to get prepared to become the best you can be.

It’s not for everyone obviously, and it’s certainly not my place to tell someone not to go there. Everyone has free will (and the parents have a say as well) to decide what’s best for their careers.

You can go along with them, or choose to go elsewhere to be trained. If you want to be coddled, it’s not the place for you.

It’s not like Eteri goes into someone’s home and kidnaps skaters. I’m surprised with all the mud and slander freely thrown her way, that nobody has come up with that one yet.

Japan trains their girls their way, South Korea trains their girls their way, America trains their girls their way, Russia trains their girls their way. Every culture is different. Different doesn’t mean wrong. One size does not fit all.

The USA way won’t work in Russia and and Russia way won’t work in the USA. And that’s the beauty of this. Variety is the spice of life.

And then we get everyone together and we watch the scoreboard to see who got it right and who got it wrong.

It’s a sport, so results matter. Otherwise we wouldn’t keep score or rankings.

The lack of touch with reality with posters like you is something else. I mean reality not the corruption that has given Eteri her little "coach of the year" award. :) You are ok with child exploitation and abuse, and not only children but in general. And your argument that abuse is needed to create champions is pathetic and lacks common sense on such a profound and complex level. There's more to life than being first in a sport, a game, entertainment. Period. The end.

I hope Eteri learns a lesson from all this, don't accept back someone who has left and strive to focus on the girls who are truly loyal to their team. All the drama of Eteri destroying figure skating, even the IOC president against him, WTF!!! She can't control Trusova's crisis, I really think she was the most surprised to see her reaction. We all watched as the trainers tried to control her, she was just out of her mind. We also saw the support they gave Kamila, the situation was already complicated. The fact that they let her compete only indicates that they are sure of her innocence. Anna always with class, she does not need to be flattered in front of the cameras, she knows that her team, her family and her country are proud of her.

For you there is but for others there isn’t.

It’s worse to tell someone how to live their lives and to be their moral authority. This is the career they choose. Age is just a number anyway.

Can’t tell someone not to value medals. Just like you can’t tell someone not to make as much money as they want. Everyone chooses their own path. Not for me to stand in their way.

Can’t and won’t fault anyone that gives their all to be the best at their sport. And I definitely will support them and the people that coach them. And will happily watch as they succeed and fail.

The only control I have over this is to choose to watch or not. And I choose to watch. My job isn’t to be parent, a coach, or the moral voice to the athletes. I’m a fan and that’s as far as I want to go. I’m completely honest with what I want as a fan.

People that don’t like what they watch can easily not watch and do something else with their time. Never understood people that watch and follow things that make them angry.

And of the rest of your post was to prove you are a more just, moral and good person than I am, I will concede with zero qualms.

Congratulations, you are a more just, moral and a better person than me. Haha

I fear like in 2002 that skating fans may unintentionally bring down the sport. Remember people in his forum are generally fanatics - hardcore skating fans. The rest of the world gets bits and pieces but what they do get out of this at the end is figure skating is a scam, sham and don't give a _am! It is tough keep quiet, yell and scream...We do not know how the drug got into Kamila or if in fact it is confirmed and if so how or why. The entire freeskate while had some great tech skills and dnice programs ie Kaori but the guilty and the actually story telling or programs were not there. Where is Carmen lol. Lots of drama with Kamila, Trusova, Eteri. of course people will say we can't let a few people ruin it for the rest. Ironically this olympics maybe should never had happened but for the political power of China these games would have been delayed a year like Tokyo. I hope everyone can enjoy their accomplishments. Three wonderful medallists. I do feel though for Kamila. Broke my heart seeing the beaten bullied and used later treated s poorly and I do not speak Russian but Eteri was not saying sweet words of encouragement clearly in the kiss and cry. Now the usual suspects will hav ea field day - the pod casters, Dave Lease and Jonathon Beyer, et al.

You don’t need to frame it in the form of a question. I don’t edit any of my posts. Well, except those that the owners and their volunteers of this website delete. Haha

So forgive me for a little more blah blah, but I am not against willful usage of drugs in sports.
