You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

You're welcome. I had to laugh at your last comment. You could have been talking about me!...when the international version of Peacock becomes available on Sky, and you are looking through the A-Z listings, and nothing inspires you. Until you reach "S", and you spot a film and you think "one of my favourite figure skating programmes was done to a song used in that film!" And you decide that you will have to make sure to watch it before it expires (which isn't until the end of August next year, so plenty of time to get round to it).
In fact, although the film I am talking about has been around for 29 years, and the song has been around for 86 years, the first time I heard the song was during a figure skating competition.
Here is the scene where the song appears in the film it was originally recorded for, "Tango Bar" (1935):

From what you guys have said, it does sound like it would be very interesting, and something that I would enjoy. So, I'll keep an eye out for it.
I see it was originally broadcast on FX. Unfortunately, the UK version of that channel closed down a few months ago. So, I suspect that the series is now only available on Disney+, which I don't intend getting unless absolutely necessary. (We are already paying for Sky, Eurosport Player and BT Sport. That's more than enough).
But, I live in hope that some channel will repeat it.
And don't worry, @skylark , I am a strict watch things in order person! So, if I do get the opportunity to watch this series, that is exactly what I'll be doing.

All six seasons are available on Amazon Prime. I'd say, it's worth a few weeks or months of subscribing, just for binge-watching that one show. But that's just me. Also, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel" is on Amazon Prime, another of my favorites ... this one is drama about a woman in the 50s trying to be a stand-up comedian. So that would be both comic relief and a brief respite, if you need it, from the Cold War.
But you may well find it on another channel. I'd be hopeless at that and I know it ... so I readily bite the bullet and pay the fee.

This is one of my all time favourite TV series ever!! Brilliant show.A fascinating show to watch, that takes place in the 1980s but was made for 6 seasons starting in 2013, is "The Americans," starring Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell. It explores so many of the attitudes, from multiple directions and varying degrees of paranoia on both sides. A number of the actors who play the Russian parts were born of Russian parents who'd immigrated to various continents before the actors' births. It was even more interesting to me because of what I've learned from figure skaters and figure skating, the interviews I've read translated from the Russian, etc. Many, many hours of viewing pleasure (something like 22 episodes per season) made better because of the complexity of ideas. Highly recommended ... by me! If you do watch, be sure to watch strictly in order, no skipping around. It's just phenomenal, the writing and the acting are great. Especially Rhys and Russell.

When you see Liza Tuktamysheva in your dream jumping quad sal, then see Eteri showing her how to do it (herself!), then see Mishin standing not far from them, having rather neutral expression on this face...

...when you watch the pilot episode of an archaeology series ("The Great British Dig"), and as soon as you see that one of the archaeologists is named Milica Rajić, you think "I wonder if she is related to Nicole Rajičová".
I don't think she is, though. Because I've since done some digging around (pun totally intended!), and Milica's heritage lies in Serbia rather than Slovakia.

I've got another one. You know you're a figure skating fan when you hear that Stars on Ice will be in San Jose on your birthday and you get so excited you forget that there's a pandemic. ("Front row, baby! Oh...wait...")

^ That reminds me of a winter break trip we took to Florida (to visit my dad who spent several winters in Boca Raton). We would normally go to Disney World & Boca, but one season, we went to Boca & Key West (these visits were between 2002 - 2005). We were doing daytime touring in Key West, but we made a point of coming back to our hotel room in the late afternoon to watch one of the holiday ice shows on NBC (to see some of our favorite pros & Olympic eligible skaters). We did this, even though we had set the DVR to record it @ home.

...when you find out the film "Let's Make Love" (1960) is being shown on the TV, and the advert for it shows Marilyn Monroe singing "My Heart Belongs To Daddy". And you get all excited because you want to see the song in the context of the story, because you have long believed that there is nothing seedy about it, and that the members on here that complain about skaters doing programmes to it are mis-interpreting the song.
But then you get all disappointed when you actually watch the film and realise that the song has no relevance to the story of that film, because Marilyn's character is just performing the song in a stage show she is acting in.
The film was OK, but I've seen better.

I did until I got sick (NOT Covid - they sent someone in full hazmat to swab me. Called 30 minutes later and I was negative). Whatever it is It is kicking my butt though.
Had to stop part of the way home to rest. Hopefully when I get home there will be a place to watch Japanese Nationals.
Also I showed people on my cruise all of my Gracie pictures

...when you find out about an online shopping website that you hadn't come across before, and the first thing you search for on it is your favourite skater's surname. And the only result that comes up is an absolutely beautiful painting of her... done by the husband of another skater!
Unfortunately, it's a bit out of my price range.
I knew all along that this guy was an artist, but I hadn't actually seen his work before. He has his own shop on that website, so I had a look through the other items he had for sale, and they were all really impressive.
Unsurprisingly, there were quite a few paintings of his wife. Well, I suppose it's handy having your muse on call!

I recognised the painting! Or rather, the print version of it. I've got quite a few prints of this particular artist with Aljona and Bruno (4), Javier Fernandez, Adam Rippon, Gabrielle and Guillaume. The prints are affordable. Whenever I have visitors, they know I'm a Figure Skating fan because of them (they will also know I'm a fan of Early Renaissance Madonna's, opera and Doctor Who (Daleks), but that's neither here nor there)....when you find out about an online shopping website that you hadn't come across before, and the first thing you search for on it is your favourite skater's surname.
