Patrick Chan

Remember when 295.27 was Patrick's WORLD RECORD at TEB? Here we are at 2017 Worlds, 3.5 years years later, and he got the same score and he's 5th, with all 4 skaters in front of him breaking 300. How times have changed! :laugh2:

With that out of the way, I am VERY HAPPY with Patrick's LP! A couple of mistakes, but he kept his focus the entire time and the jumps that were clean were BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Earlier in the season, he let the easier triples go, but not now. The ice seemed fine, which was fantastic. Patrick's 4S success rate this season is impressive. He looks quite comfortable with that jump now, and the 3A as well. I felt the joy coming from him during the second step sequence. He skated with calmness and freedom here, unlike last year's Worlds, when he seemed so nervous and tense. I interpreted his nod afterward as, "I could have done a bit better, but I did well." I just want him to take this calmness into next season. He didn't seem tense or nervous. The mistakes happened, but he moved on. I am SO PROUD of him!!! It was such a treat to watch that Journey because, like I said, I felt Patrick's joy. The last spin was labored and slow, but everything else was pristine. Thank you, Patrick!!! :luv17:

As for the new layout, he barely managed a 1Lo+2S after the first Axel. The other changes I saw were no 2Lo on the 3Lz+2T and the plain second 3A. I wonder if this will be next season's layout or not. If he's keeping Journey it probably will be, unless he surprises us with a 4F. ;)

ETA: Favorite transition today - turn on one foot into rotating spread eagle after the 3A. GORGEOUS!!! And the camera angle was great for it.

I like Javier, but I can't figure out why he is only 1 point below Patrick, with a fall and multiple other errors in the LP?

Although the BESP commentator was wrong by saying Patrick was in 3rd place, I think he subconsciously did believe Patrick was entitled for the Bronze.

Well, I'm not so unhappy, the program was wonderful and he did almost his best score(total). This 5 th place is much better than last year's one because because he fought hard and did an excellent technical score(he would have surpassed 100 if It wasn't for that last spin). He's in the mix , he's out of the podium even because the others outperformed their past programs . We can analyse something for the next season: He' s closed the gap in the short program, He can do the quad salchow(and with+2.71 of goe!) and he'll nave two quads as the others, if they'll not do combinations with two quads or a quad axel(very unlikely to happen).I believe that that's very important because he needs a good short to skate with less pressure the free. The problem is that in the long program the gap will be probably wider if he doesn' t add something because hanyu will put the lutz, Uno the salchow,Jin the loop and javi too.I believe he should think about that.
Best wishes for an excellent next season to Patrick!

Men event was fantastic! But it was a little bit to much stress for me. I got a kind of an allergic reaction from it, my hands and arms are red and swollen. I almost could not breath during Patricks skate.:clapper::love:.. He was amazing. His speed, his carriage, his back... his arms, his shoulders. Every movement was perfekt. I pretend, I did not see the two little mistakes. ;)
PCS are a joke. That does not reflect, what we saw.

Now I am back for ice dance. This is less stressful...

Yep, and speaking of Javi, here's a photo of Patrick with him, taken sometime during this week:

This was my favorite moment in the kiss and cry, which I captured in a GIF:

I love it when he says "thank you" to us! :agree:

Oh my, perhaps they should start putting a warning about adverse effects from watching too much men's skating... :eeking: But some fans on Twitter said that Patrick's skating was very soothing and felt like a tranquilizer... Thank you for bringing us all of your live reports!

Two days earlier, Chan had skated his way into the top three in the short program with his superb all-around skills and artistry. But he knows changes are needed if he's to reach the Olympic podium again. He'll do some "number-crunching" before deciding to add a fourth quad to his long program.

He plans to increase the quads in his short program from one to two, and could experiment with that at the World Team Trophy later this month in Tokyo.

"Fourth quad in the long? I don't know," Chan said. "It's a toss-up. . . I don't know what happens if I had a fourth quad. I'm not like some of these guys who just roll out of bed and do it. I have to be a little more methodical. That's just the type of athlete I am, my build, my genetics, I just need to be smart. I can't let myself get carried away with what the other guys are doing and conform myself to their style, if that makes sense."

This just in... Patrick's message to the FANS!!

https://twitter.com/helsinki_2017/status/848190618002182146

...just finished the long program here... happy with the performance, and I want to thank the fans for coming to watch... thank you so much. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your support and your interest in our sport. So, continue watching.

don't worry Patrick... we are watching ;)

this is what i love : last year, Patrick was angry.... this year, he is serene.... not all 5th places mean the same. This one is a big open door towards the ultimate experience Patrick deserves at the Olympic games : satisfaction of having done his best.

I honestly think Patrick sees his performance at worlds like pretty much the best he could do for now... and it was...

Flawless SP
Pretty close to landing the 3 quads and 2 3axels.... the rest perfect... .

Sure : he got a combo invalidated... that hurts... but that's just a question of reflexes... if the connection had been legit, it would have been fine.... or.. if he had thought quickly upon landing, he could have let go the combo there and tried it later... but this all happens less than half a second so, how can anyone and even himself not be satisfied?

Building blocks... this is what I see... watch out everyone... i am thinking more and more that Patrick is keeping the Journey.... (not my favourite idea because i wanted something with a glorious section for the games) but this is what h usually does (keeping the free)... so remember how the chopin came from japan open and developed into a masterpiece? I think the Journey is about to get completely refined and become the ultimate destination for Patrick. Patrick is also a skater who needs to feel at home with a program to land it perfectly and that's why he didn't do two quads this year in the SP.... he takes his time with content... I think we will be in for a treat next year.

Okay so here is my take on Patricks LP.

I loved it, it was so beautiful other than those few little mistakes.

I am left bitter though because he was definitely robbed of PCS scores. :scowl:

Onto next year, my friends....:peace:

a 4th quad is not the solution in his situation right now... because it means that a 4S BV 10.5 would replace a 3A BV 8.5 Patrick would then earn only 2 more points...

Another thing to consider is that the plan he had picked (against my will LOL) is to do 3a-1/2--3S... with 4 quads, he would most likely do 4t-3t, 4t, 4s and 4s-2t... I don't see him being able to tag a 1/2 loop combo there... of course he can tag it later on in the program after the 3A or the 3Lz... but stamina wise, that's a huge step up UNLESS he removes what makes him special. I am not really into this.

If Patrick had a 4F ;) then, it would be different... on top of that, the 4F is 12.3 so that would then make sense if he were to use that and remove a 3A (but he wouldn't even have to remove a 3A)... that's really where the game is different... with a third kind of quad, a skater can use one in combo, and keep a 3A combo and a single 3A... SHoma even does two 3A combos because he is at ease with that....

BUT HERE GUYS : thanks m001 for confirming that Patrick is going to WTT :) more chiddy

So proud of how well Patrick did today. I'm not ruling him out for a medal in the men's event at the Olympics - by a long shot.

I'm trying to decide who had the best edges today - Patrick Chan or Jason Brown. They were both too good!

I am gutted for him and Patrick for not getting the 3rd spot for 2018, but I hope they realize that they both did so well here. I think if they stay healthy, they are clearly the top two Canadian men unless Nam and/or Liam get A LOT better.

No! :dev2: This was nerve wracking as well! I had three little heart attacks. One caused by Scott and two by Zach.

Patrick, always Patrick. Jason's edges are too shallow, as to where Patrick's are deep, pristine, long and beautiful.

:agree: with you. I fully disagree with the article. Is Patrick really going to do "numbers crunching" or did the journalist just write that because it sounded cool? I'm sure he was asked about how to improve his score/placement (that's what the press always asks), but this article is too much of a downer for my taste. His LP was beautiful and the mistakes barely disrupted the flow at all. But then, we are ubers who look for what Patrick is doing right, not wrong. So, I guess we're weirdos! 2 quads in the SP is enough of a change next season, as far as I'm concerned. I think Patrick shouldn't overload his brain with too many adjustments. We'll see what he actually decides.

Charlie White focuses on the positive, though! Patrick follows his lead, and this interview makes me happier than I can possibly express. We won as fans today. (Not to mention that Patrick won for himself). Okay, I'll stop gushing and let you watch it now. :)

I have had a snack since I posted. I think it helped my analyzing. :) I think Patrick's are better as well. Plus, I'm giving additional points for keeping those edges up while doing a program with multiple quads.
