Remember when 295.27 was Patrick's WORLD RECORD at TEB? Here we are at 2017 Worlds, 3.5 years years later, and he got the same score and he's 5th, with all 4 skaters in front of him breaking 300. How times have changed!
With that out of the way, I am VERY HAPPY with Patrick's LP! A couple of mistakes, but he kept his focus the entire time and the jumps that were clean were BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Earlier in the season, he let the easier triples go, but not now. The ice seemed fine, which was fantastic. Patrick's 4S success rate this season is impressive. He looks quite comfortable with that jump now, and the 3A as well. I felt the joy coming from him during the second step sequence. He skated with calmness and freedom here, unlike last year's Worlds, when he seemed so nervous and tense. I interpreted his nod afterward as, "I could have done a bit better, but I did well." I just want him to take this calmness into next season. He didn't seem tense or nervous. The mistakes happened, but he moved on. I am SO PROUD of him!!!
It was such a treat to watch that Journey because, like I said, I felt Patrick's joy. The last spin was labored and slow, but everything else was pristine. Thank you, Patrick!!! :luv17:
As for the new layout, he barely managed a 1Lo+2S after the first Axel. The other changes I saw were no 2Lo on the 3Lz+2T and the plain second 3A. I wonder if this will be next season's layout or not. If he's keeping Journey it probably will be, unless he surprises us with a 4F.
ETA: Favorite transition today - turn on one foot into rotating spread eagle after the 3A. GORGEOUS!!! And the camera angle was great for it.
