2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

If she does or doesn’t go, she won’t change who she is, we know this. However, her stating this on the air may open the eyes of outside forces, like NBC or public sponsors. who may put PR pressure to take her.

If she does it the private way, USFSA can just say “we’ll take it under advisement” and do what they wanted to anyways, and after the fact, if Ashley puts up a fuss then, put out a bland public statement thanking Ashley for her long contributions to figure skating, but they are going in a different direction.

Nope.
There is no way in hell USFSA will allow for a PR nightmare that would happen considering the 2014. There is so much material to potentially roast them, and her, that anything needed to be done quietly. You don't always do everything in public. In fact, most things aren't done that way.

..... but I don’t know how to report people 😂😂.

I feel like Ashley really has only herself to blame for the situation she is in. One does not simply debut a "one month old" program at Nationals and expect to gain a spot in the Olympics by virtue of her PCS. Hopefully the selectors hear the pure ungracious bile she unleashed during the interview.

lol I hope no one bases their selection for an Olympic team based on interviews.

IMO no amount of pressure will convince USFSA to knowingly give themselves that huge of a PR disaster which will no doubt ensue if they pull another 2014.

How is it a PR disaster? If you are inferring because Karen is Asian American, so is Mirai, and that wasn’t as disastrous back in ‘14.

Again, they aren’t taking 2016 worlds into account when they put together the tier system, but NBC or the sponsors probably don’t care about that. They just see the world silver medalist and 3 time national champion being left home because of undercooked components scores.

You really think the US public cares who's on the Olympic team? Everyone I know who is watching this has never heard of any of these people and won't remember their names until reminded again by February. Sad to say, but that's the case of figure skating in the US now. :ohwell:

There was huge backlash over Ashley being chosen over Mirai by the general public. Plenty of accusations involving race/racism, even people in my college who knew less than nothing about FS were talking about it. It was headlining newspapers, etc. Pull that with Ashley (again) and another asian skater (again) and it will not be pretty. PR disaster going into the Olympics (in ASIA).

I think Ashley knew this was to be her fate unless the others made major mistakes. She looked very nervous after her practice this week. She's done so many Nationals and this is her third Olympic trials. She knows the drill. In a way, since she was gifted last quad, this is almost fair.

It was clear after the short program who they wanted to send. Ashley doesn't stand a chance. Maybe it she had finished her program at Skate America they would have thrown some PCS her way at Nationals...who knows.

I doubt that's the case. Although, if she managed to get in GPF she would definitely be in the better position.
It seems as they simply want to support the future, i.e. young skaters, and get rid of the old ones who don't do anything new.

Thank youuuuuuu!

It’s probably beating a dead horse now, but I will definitely remember that in the future!

Not sure if this has been raised before but based on what I see in the thread posts is winning the US nationals not a guaranteed spot in the Olympics?

And all this in a very different climate too where people are even more sensitive about these things.

We have had to read and hear about Mirai not being selected in 2014 for four years. They cannot send Ashley to the Olympics this time.

I don't think so. They see Ashley staying home because the best ashe could do was fourth, when she needed third.

I remember it was on NBC Nightly News (with Lester Holt). It was a BIG deal.
