2025 Canadian Nationals: SR Women's Free Program | Jan 19, 2025

Amy Shao Ning Yang is perhaps my favourite skater here. Naturally musical. Gorgeous posture and flow. It's really too bad she's not a better jumper, because she has everything else. Effortless flow and glide, and she's not stiff. The choreography looks so natural.

None, just a ! and e call on her two Flips, plus two level 2 spins. 4 points lower PCS than at Challenge with a fall though - And while I completely get her deservedly receiving lower PCS than for example Marie-France, this was not a worse performance for Uliana than at Challenge.

Judging being inconsistent from competition to competition is an issue in skating, not just in Canada.
To be fair, Marie-France gave us such a performance, if I were a judge, I would have scored uliana lower than MF d'amour here. This is actually what I see on the score card. This was not it. Yesterday was even better performance wise.

At Denis Ten this season (her only international in 2024-2025 where she finished in 4th place), Uliana received 114.4 for the free - with 56.86 PCS (compared to 47.87 today) - average from all judges was in the 7's. Her TCS wasn't as good there with some little carrots and edge calls. But this strengthens my argument I believe. She also scored well in the short (64.43)

I hope @RatedPG is here. Grace then Amy later
Yup. I’m watching. Two of my three faves in this group. Breken in the next group.

Grace - Lovely performance. She listened to me too. She went for a single 3T. Four triples in total. This is the best she could have skated. A shame she didn’t surpass 140. That spin in the SP cost her. 17th place finish 👏
Redemption skate!! I’m so proud of her!!
Next step for her is to add the 3F she has been training and to add a 2F to her 2A eu 2S instead.

Amy - I knew that the Challenge Win was a one off. I still watch her SP and FP from Challenge cause it was so spectacular. The addition of the 3F is what is tricky for her. Disappointing result here. But, her artistry is so beautiful

Uliana leads as expected. Excellent jumps, but, artistry has a lot of room to develop. She is lucky she skated at Denis Ten (178) score. To me, if she lands everything, she is a 170 max skater. I hope she works on her skating skills. I’m seeing some improvements. But, they are small and not big improvements.

To me, the second flight plus Hetty is the battle for junior Worlds.
Uliana leading
This flight:
(Kara, Megan, Kaiya and Breken all in this flight of skaters)
Hetty in final flight (1st skater)

I’m excited!!

First flight was good already, with some really good skates!!

A really great skate from Kara, those jumps were very nice! I would have liked to see a little bit more speed and ice coverage, especially in the steps, but she skated with great poise throughout the program and I loved seeing her match the energy of the music in the choreo sequence.
