What a men's event. My award for men's skater of the day goes to one Matteo Rizzo. One quad and he skated the entire program like royalty. Superb. I will end on a good note: My head was skating with Ilia but my heart was skating with Matteo. Grazie.

So so happy for Danny and Ellie. I will even forgive the "Let's Go Patriots", but don't let it happen again Danny. ;)

(Yes the game is on now. Sort of watching. But I will be moving and grooving to that halftime show :dance3:)

I love when skaters exceed expectations:clap:

should this have have been given a fall? seems both hands are holding up the weight of his body.

Watching the replay I don't think his arms were technically holding the majority of his bodyweight, it was more like a brief stabilization. I don't think it officially counts as a fall. A fall requires the majority of your bodyweight to be burdened on the ice. In this screenshot it seems that way but from the replay likely not.

I had to watch Ellie and Danny's free again. Boy, she was determined to not let herself fall on those throws and really fought. When I was watching live, I was jumping and screaming too much,, so I needed to watch again. I'm sure my neighbors wondered what on earth was going on. I'm so proud of them and feel like we've all been waiting for this skate for a LONG time! I'm officially starting the prayer circle for them to duplicate these throws and jumps in the free!!!!!

This is something the ISU needs to clear up in the rules. Such as one hand or two hands, or a knee touching the the ice is an automatic fall unless part of the choreography (maybe a handstand).

If his arms were tied behind his back in that moment the only way he wouldn't faceplant is if he could levitate. I would argue the hands are holding almost all the body weight that moment both of them touch the ice.

To me it does.
Here's another angle.

Yea but this is also true for hand on ice generally. If the skater didn't plant their hand they'd fall over.

To me it does.

Looks pretty bad

I went back and watched again as well, it brings me so much joy to see them pull through. And Ellie crying during the anthem - just love her.

I'm very happy for Amber and Alysa to have those gold medals, but I hope for a different winner in the individual event.

I'm specifically rooting for Kaori. The others would, I'm sure, be worthy champions. But Kaori has redefined what it means to be a champion. The mutually supportive atmosphere among the women skaters we enjoy so much... that didn't happen by accident. By her example and generous spirit, Kaori Sakamoto is the origin of this.

If it's not Kaori, then I'm hoping for one of the other Japanese women or Isabeau. The women's field is so tightly bunched, let's spread the wealth.

I'm watching the Peacock venue feed now and so many instructions for the first time Olympic newbies to follow to be informed of Olympic podium protocol/expected behavior, which heck is probably a bit similar to GPF anyways. The Italians were noisy and someone on their team shushed everybody before the instructions were given out LOL. Congratulations to all! Glad the newbies are enjoying their first Olympic medal ceremony experience!

The fall versus not fall discussion also happened in 4CC with Miura. It's just a thing that can go either way, and is nothing new.

People need to remember this is a judged sport. If you don't like it, then you always have the option to quit or not watch.
