Did you see the Real predection thread? I got the top 4 right!
I think this is the 5th year in a row where the reigning world champ didn't make the podium:
2005 - Shizuka placed 9th
2006 - Irina wasn't there
2007 - Kimmie placed 4th
2008 - Miki withdrew
2009 - Mao placed 4th
I just realized Yu-Na and Mao could compete against each other in the grand prix before the GPF, assuming they both make the finals. And Miki won't have to compete against Yu-Na like she had to do twice this season .
Nice to know this.
This is not good for Yuna Kim that all.
^ I believe that the Grand Prix events will be in a different order in 2009. Eric Bompard first, then Russia, China, NHK, Skate America and ending with Skate Canada.
Men get an extra 25% bonus multiplier (compared to ladies) on their PCSs. If Kim had skated in the men's eent, elevating her PCSs by 25% to be consistent with men's scoring, she would have scored 236.44.
Darn, she just missed the podium in fourth place.
But wait -- the men get 8 jumping passes instead of 7. So it all comes down to what Kim does with her eighth jumping pass. If she does a simple 2A, this brings her up to 236.94 and she gets the bronze, ahead of Joubert.
If she could manage another triple flip instead of the 2A, now she has 237.94. She gets silver ahead of Chan.
Can she get gold? She would need something like an extra 3Lz+3T to bring her up to 242.94 and beat Lysacek. This is probably a little bit unrealistic, so Kim probably has to settle for silver or bronze.
Oh well, there is always next year!![]()
Actually, judging by history, it isn't. Not since Tara Lipinski has the reigning world champ gone on to win the Olympics.
ooo, yeah, two olympics for the ladies
compared to how many for the men? (not since Scott Hamilton has the World Champ going into the olympics won the dang thing... and some didn't even hit the podium... ok, well, only *one* did that)
I'd worry more for Evan and the real curse... as opposed to Kim and the kinda-curse

Why the change in order? Will they change it back afterward?
I don't know this for sure, but I think the reason for the change was that NBC television wanted Skate America closer to the Olympics so they could better co-ordinate it with their Olympic coverage. This might go for Canada, too.
I don't know what plans the ISU has after next year.
Just few words...
I'm really happy for Yuna Kim. Her performance was amazing and I think she fully deserved the score that she got. Maybe the score is a little bit higher than it should usually be, but I got the impression that judges were generous to everyone, so it's fairly.
Woah, that's impressive. I've made official predictions before, but they never seemed to work out the way I planned so I banned myself from making official podium predictions. How did you figure Mao would end up fourth? Because I would have never made a prediction like that, nor will I ever in the future, even if she did end up fourth at this Worlds.Did you see the Real predection thread? I got the top 4 right!
I was reading a live chat during the ladies LP moderated by David Long, a Canadian coach and Skate Canada technical specialist and he predicted over 130 for Yu-Na's LP before the scores came out. I don't think it was impossible or such an inflated score for Yu-Na to get 131.59She had 5 triples in the LP. NO WAY that score was fair. IMO her SP was also overscored but in the long run scores are place holders and she was easily the winner of this competition. No one came close to her.
The points are not all about jumps, there are step sequences and artistry as well. She had some errors and she got deductions for them. 0 points for one of the spirals is also there. She had 5 triples in the LP. NO WAY that score was fair.
