Does anyone know how Damien Bueckert SK qualified to Nationals? All I can find is that he was 3rd at Ontario Sectionals?

He had the Challenge Minimum Score to qualify for Challenge and is the only skater competing in Senior Men for Saskatchewan. He gets a spot in Challenge by default as long as Saskatchewan wants to enter him. Since there were fewer entries than spots (10 men competing for 13 spots), it was an optional category this year.

But Challenge placement is what would determine his start order in the short, so it will be either him or Grayson skating first for the short.

Wesley Chiu would dearly love to win a second Canadian title next week in Laval. The question is whether his ailing ankle will allow him to have a fair shot at doing just that.

0n the Skate Canada website Wesley Chui is still listed in the Skating Order. We still do not know why Stephen Gogolev is not skating or on the Skating Order.

There is a W/D next to Wesley's name in the starting order.... This is simply to reflect that Wesley was planing to come to Nationals and withdrew after the starting orders were made, while Stephen decided to withdraw before the starting orders were originally published. Wesley's name will remain on the start lists for the whole championship with the W/D marking, same as in the final scoring sheet. At least, that's what I think I have noticed they do in the past.

I’m going with Roman for the win. I feel he has been on a journey since his Olympic year where he carried the heavy weight of Canadian expectations as the talented, inexperienced guy. It seemed to crush him at the time. In the next two years, I think we will see what he has learned and how he has grown from his experiences. The optimist in me thinks we will see him figure out how to handle the expectations and deliver under pressure. It looks like things are coming full circle.

It looked like he might be getting it together, finally, at the beginning of the season, but how he'll react with all the other favourites out, is a wild card. I would dearly love to see him skate well.

I think at his last event it was thought he could win and he barely hung on to bronze. I really hope he gets it together but I am not hopeful. He could have been the next Buttle or Chan good tech not super great (well Chan was pretty up there in 2011 to 14. But he is no longer a teen or early 20's going into the mid 20's and still has not fulfilled the promise (kind of like Nam who at least got fifth at worlds) and like Gogo. I fear the same will happen to Paradis who has not improved technically. Roman I know like all the skaters is trying but they can't seem to handle the pressure.

Let's give Anthony a chance. He had a leg fracture. He's just back at his former level and he is adding a triple Axel. Do I think he will land many quads and compete with the top three in the world? Probably not. However, I don't think it's fair to criticize heavily a guy who is still of junior age. Do I agree that Roman has had unfortunately more downs than ups? Yes. Talent doesn't always translate into success. If that were true, Emmanuel Sandhu would have been a very decorated champion

I would love to see Roman win, but am afraid to put my definite vote because of the way I jinx any horse I put eacg way in the Melbourne Cup... so I'll just keep my fingers crossed (which will make tyoing fun, but no sacrifice is too grreat and all)

I am so close I could almost high five skaters on the ice. Loving it. I was so far away when I went to Ottawa nationals a few years ago.... Much bigger venue
