2025 Canadian Nationals: JR Women | Jan 15-17, 2025

I was having thoughts about these two as they are so talented yet didn't qualify for Nationals.
I am not sure what the criteria is for selection.

@saine can enlighten us maybe ?

I think top 5 should make it, along with the NextGen women who competed Senior this season. I can see Megane as well since she had some good competitions up until Nationals. The only women who didn't compete at Nationals that I can see added are Aleksa Volkova and Lulu. Aleksa was able to earn the Junior Worlds CTES, so I think that would work in her favour.

Also having a 3Lo is necessary for the upcoming season. They didn't include Kento Nakashima or Travis Trang after they placed 1st and 2nd at Novice Nationals and went with Parker (4th) instead. They were jumping a 2F in the short, so that kept them off the team.

That's too bad Cho was born in August. Fingers crossed, she skates injury free and enjoys that extra year.

I would love to see a couple of the Kelowna skaters make it to Next Gen.

Only Konstantina had a 3Lo in her free skate, neither Gabrielle or Calissa attempted it. Calissa did get her 3F this season, so hopefully she can get a 3Lo for next season

Next Gen skaters for next season projections:

I think they will pick 16 girls

(3) Three Senior National Next Gen girls:
Kara, Megan, Hetty - on lock
(3) Top finishers from Novice Nationals (yet to be competed); they took Lia, Ksenia, Sandrine, and Nathalie (top 4 finishers from last season; all scored 125+
This season is weaker. But, funny enough, the one winner from AB (Uxia), ONT (Hannah), QUE (Camila Volkova) all scored 130+ to win their Novice sectionals. The rest of the girls were below 130. One or two over 120. So, I assume they will pick 3 skaters from this batch to give them exposure, if there are 3 skaters at Novice Nationals that score over 125
(2) injured ladies:
Lulu, Aleksa (for sure)
(1) possible transfer
Minsol ??? (Not sure what is going on)
So, that is already 8/9 of the 16 spots taken
So, top 7/8 from this Nationals

you'd leave out Mély-Ann ? I mean, she had a terrible challenge sectional (correction) event but she is a huge talent

gosh... maybe she wasn't... and she failed at sectionals... she had one bad skate that ended her National pathway.

She wasn't, Quebec sent the top 8 from sectionals. Mely-Ann finished 10th there, so she didn't qualify for Challenge.

Thanks for correcting me... i knew she had an issue at some point.. thought it was challenge but it was sectionals... even worse.

Yeah!! I left Mely Ann out because she was terrible at Next Gen and then terrible at another event (Cranberry?) and then terrible at Sectionals. I hope she regroups for next season.

I was sad to see her season ended at Sectionals.

A quite likely reason if she jumps a lot. My Highland dancing abruptly turned bad when a growth spurt gave me shin splints from the constant springing jumps in soft slippers. On the ice, I was concentrating on figure and dance tests that year and not jumping much, so my skating didn't suffer as much as Highland.
