2024-25 South Korean Figure Skating

Since I'm apparently depended upon enough regarding news about Korean skating that I may be thought of as more than just a fan... here's an announcement of sorts: I'm going to be appearing much less frequently on the forum for the near future, I will post important news on this thread if it hasn't been posted by anybody else and I will post the thread for Nationals with all the necessary info but other than that I'll mostly be MIA. Real life is kinda insane for me right now, both as a private person and a Korean citizen, and I barely have enough time to actually watch skating. Hopefully I'll get to resume my active posting around 4CCs, assuming that 4CCs won't be relocated or something...
i'll be missing you, but apparently real life matters too. come back as soon as you can, we'll be waiting for you! :ghug::ghug::ghug::ghug:

I think Russia only release skaters once a year, so he would probably need to wait until the Summer now. Does that rule Korea out of the team trophy event?

Hyejin is not retired and has found a new partner, Rodion Marinskii (Russian, used to skate with Anastasia Egorova as juniors in Russia). No idea about release status but the video Hyejin posted (https://youtu.be/i97mi_lcEH0?feature=shared) shows them in Canada for training
Rodion is a solid choice, not successful enough to have issues getting released, but good enough to be at least at the same level as Hyejin with good triple jumps and experience with triple throws and twists.

Yes, RusFed went down to only approving releases once a year instead of twice. This year, the meeting was in May, so I assume the same will be true next year and Hyejin and Rodion won't be able to compete until next season.
Korea can still compete at WTT (Japan has with only three disciplines in the past, but to be fair, they are also the hosts), but it remains to be seen if they qualify. There are a lot of teams currently with only two or three strong disciplines and only a few who have already secured a high number of points in the GP stages, so the ISU Championships will be very important this year.

National Team (main) 2025/2026
Ice Dance: Lim/Quan
Men: Cha Junhwan, Seo Minkyu, Lee Sihyeong, Kim Hyungyeom, Lee Jaekeun
Women: Kim Chaeyeon, Shin Jia, Kim Yuseong, Kim Yujae, Yun Ahsun, Lee Haein, Ko Nayeon, Wi Seoyeong, Kim Geonhee, Huh Jiyu

National Team (reserve) 2025/2026
Men: Choi Habin, Yu Donghan, Lee Yunho
Women: Huh Jiyu, Youn Seojin, Hwang Jeongyul, Kim Jiyu, Lee Hyorin, Kim Minsong, Lee Jiyoon, Lee Hyowon, Lee Gyuri, Cha Doi

Update: with my beloved's decision to retire the main team has a vacancy now, I'm assuming that Huh Jiyu will move up and her place in the reserve team will be filled by Joo Hyewon but also waiting for KSU's official list

Update 2: non-official but almost certain updates with Huh Jiyu moving up to the main team and Doi from the youth team (espoirs under 18 who didn't get in either team) moving up to the reserve team

Does anyone have the schedule and results for last week's Korean National Winter Sports Festival? In particular for womens (and juniors womens, if relevant). Thanks in advance!

The results page is here ( https://meet.sports.or.kr/winter/schedule/scheduleClass.do ) but you'll need to machine translate the whole thing, and also the layout is not the most user friendly. And here are the schedues for the junior women (group B) and the seniors (group A):

1.21
14:28 - 15:14 B Women U-12 SP
15:14 - 15:40 B Women Adult SP
15:55 - 16:59 B Women U-18 SP
18:19 - 20:28 B Women U-15 SP

1.22
9:00 - 9:52 B Women U-12 FS
9:52 - 10:20 B Women Adult FS
10:35 - 11:43 B Women U-18 FS
13:24 - 15:33 B Women U-15 FS
15:33 - 16:07 A Women/Men Adult SP
16:22 - 16:50 A Men U-15/U-18 SP
16:50 - 18:13 A Women U-15 SP
18:13 - 18:47 A Women U-18 SP

1.23
11:00 - 11:36 A Women/Men Adult FS
11:36 - 12:06 A Men U-15/U-18 FS
12:36 - 13:42 A Women U-15 FS
13:57 - 14:39 A Women U-18 FS

JWC Team Korea
- Seo Minkyu, Choi Habin, Kim Hyungyeom*
- Shin Jia, Kim Yujae
*assigned to 4CC, first alternate Lee Jaekeun
It seems that Hyungyeom is not planning to go to JWC, during an interview he only listed AWG and 4CCs as his upcoming competitions. I am 100% for the team of Minkyu, Habin, and Jaekeun btw, the junior skaters going to JWC feels right

Edit: confirmed, Jaekeun is on the entries list with Juheon as substitute

I write this with a heavy heart, my beloved Wi Seoyeong has retired with NWSF as her final competition (https://www.instagram.com/p/DFpKkx3Ru9S/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

This is a personal bit, but she was the second Korean female skater that got a pet name from me (a sign of partiality), so this hit hard. I had thankfully gotten some personal good news about an hour before I saw this so the shock was somewhat muffled, but it still stings a lot. With Minsol's whereabouts not looking good for my wishes and Eun still struggling with jumps the only Korean woman left internationally competing with a pet name is my love Chaeyeon, I can only hope that she has a long, fruitful career with at least two Olympic experiences...

So I understood her post correctly :(

According to fans who are keeping track Huh Jiyu will indeed get the main team spot, but her spot in the reserve team will be filled by Cha Doi (junior silver medalist at the Ranking Competition)
