You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

...when you draw up a schedule for the coming week so as not to miss any of your favourite skaters, with Nebelhorn, JGP Ljubljana, Cup of Russia, and Cup of St. Petersburg all going down at the same time.
I have to memorize it to correct my mom who has a list but whimsically interchange the competitions, who is skating where, plus I have to play charades with the names of the skaters and the countries they represent, and if they are junior or senior, because she could never remember the names. So, the outfit’s colour and the best guess at a country… I mean, there are some easy ones, because Ignatov will always be Ignat to her (presumably Makarov), but other rest are like, ‘such an easy name, you know, Denezhkina or something’ (ends up Storublevtzeva…))… basically, I have to be on the ball all the time.

also, after many rounds of explaining her YouTube algorithm, she still lives in this semi-frustrated state with the mysterious ‘they’ who put all the wrong skaters on the ‘right side’ of her YouTube and she still believes if I open my YouTube, I will see those same videos as she is seeing… which makes things even more intriguing.

...when you watch a film, even though you know it will be awful, because your favourite actor AND an actress who used to be a figure skater are both in it.

If it had been just one of them in it, I wouldn't have bothered watching it. But because it was both, I did. And within 5 minutes of it starting, I was regretting that decision. It was worse than I thought it would be!

Well, to be fair, neither of the people I wanted to see had appeared at that stage. And, their characters weren't actually too bad when they did arrive. But the rest of it was unbearable. To the extent that I couldn't watch all 90 minutes of it in one go - I watched it over 3 days!

Although I love comedy films, I absolutely hate the kind of comedy that was in that film. And I think watching it has affected me. For a short time afterwards, I was thinking the way that people who like that sort of comedy think. And that is not a good thing. At all. Suffice to say, it has had consequences.

So, trust your instincts. If you know fine well a film is going to be awful, don't let yourself be attracted to watching it just because you like a couple of the people that are in it. Because it could have effects in ways you could not imagine.

There was one other film in that series I was tempted to watch, because it is about a subject that I am interested in (ancient Egypt) and somebody else I like is playing the main character. But, I've learnt my lesson now.

And the best of it is, I'm going to have to do a further update to one of them today, because they had only done the Short at their latest event - the Free is today! :drama:
