2024-25 South Korean Figure Skating

Update on Hannah and Ye's situation: they're supposedly cleared to compete at selections, see the post on the selections thread for more info

Universiade: Cha Junhwan, Lee Sihyeong, Cha Younghyun / Choi Dabin, Wi Seoyeong, Kim Yelim
Asian Winter Games: Cha Junhwan, Kim Hyungyeom / Kim Chaeyeon, Kim Seoyoung

Edit: Hannah and Ye's situation remains a mystery, unlike AWG Ye is eligible for Universiade yet they didn't get to actually compete at selections so... will post if there's an update, but do they actually want to do Universiade..?
On the topic of not wanting to compete at Universiade... My darling should definitely not go to Universiade, he needs to focus on AWG for military exemption (you need to win gold to do so) plus he has to do 4CC the next week after AWG, so no he is doing Universiade over my dead, decaying body :dbana: Let Hangil go to a major competition and show off his fantastic Ina Bauer for once

Interesting change in rules: the Ranking Competition announcement states that the top 30 (and not 24) skaters from the SP will advance to the FS, it's not really going to matter for the (domestic) seniors since there are almost always less than 30 competitors in the first place but for the (domestic) juniors it's going to mean getting to do the FS for 6 more skaters, which is great for them. Only downside will be me and the other spectators having to save up more energy for the junior women's FS, but that's a price I should pay for 6 girls getting to skate their FS in front of a large(ish) crowd

when I asked Hannah about this a few months ago, she said that KSU was trying to help to Ye. but. you can get Hungarian passports in every supermarket in Moscow, but as far as I know, Asian countries don't support dual citizenship (you obviously know more about this). but if I want a European example, there is poor Allison Reed, who missed two Olympics because she is as Lithuanian as I am. but she skates much better. (but I know Ye is working really hard to learn Korean language and culture. anyway I'm rooting for him.)
but I want to ask you two things: 1: what about Lee and You's appeal? when will it be discussed? 2: why KSU does not undertake GP or at least JGP events?

I also ask a third question: what kind of contracts do the Korean skaters sign, and what do the sponsors oblige them to do? I thought of this because of Kim Yelim. maybe she should rest a bit

Haein's and Young's appeals were both rejected, and KSU doesn't do GP/JGP events because a)they don't like the extra work and b)they don't think it'll be worth the money. Don't expect KSU to actually care about our skaters, they don't.

As far as I know the sponsorships only require the skater to wear their logos on their jacket and act as ambassadors or whatever, they don't make them do x number of competitions or anything. Yelim is doing her events because she wants to test herself and her condition, and also because she wants to skate in front of an audience. She is choosing to compete, nobody is forcing her to do so, and I don't think she should pause her skating career just because she's not back in full form yet. She's not skating injured (as far as I know), so if she is keeping herself safe while competing who has the right to stop her? I don't think I have any.

I don't want to stop her, I'm happy to see her, but sometimes it's painful as well... "appeals were both rejected" - You's one, ok, it was simple, but Lee's...
"extra work" :)

Just saw something on X. Is it true that Haein's ban was lifted and she will take part in the ranking competition??

Oh lord I have a headache, so here's what the news article says:
- Haein went to court against KSU in order to get her suspension revoked, the trial for that revocation is still ongoing (edit: if it gets revoked it means that she's proven innocent of sexual harassment charges)
- The court issued a temporary suspension on that suspension, i.e. she temporarily regains her rights to compete as a registered athlete
(edit: Haein requested the court to issue that temporary suspension and the court accepted her request)
- Haein is preparing to compete at the Ranking Competition following the court's decision
- No mention of how long said temporary suspension of Haein's suspension is going to last

I've just read one article for now so this is rough, I'll post more after I look things up more

I'm on allergy medications right now (skin issues) and thus quite woozy, this is so not the time for me to deal with all this but...

- How long is this temporary suspension of athlete suspension is going to last, does it last until Nationals? What about 4CCs? And Worlds? This is pre-Olympic season ffs Olympic spots are on the line
- Why is there absolute silence regarding Young, did she decide to just... wait out a year?? Is she still training if so? Is that photo she supposedly took truly inappropriate? How separated is her case from Haein's? This is driving me mad
- The deadline for Ranking Competition application is tomorrow, is everything really cleared? Can she actually register? I guess we'll find out tomorrow????
- Even if Haein gets to compete at the Ranking Competition, is she in shape? Can she be in shape? Has she been training? What about the mental aspect? What is going to happen...
- Plus some other miscellaneous things on my mind: why hasn't my Inkyong done any regional qualifiers, why is my love Chaeyeon's coach listed as Coach Chi on the Gyeonggi NSWF qualifier list, is Jin Jueun still competing or not...

Young never challenged her ban in court like Haein did. Since it was only one year, I think she decided going to court just wasn't worth the stress.

Ye,the problem is You never fight like Haien did probably because she wanted to just wait one year. Not that big deal compared to 3 years of Haien. Also easily agreeing to being guilty may have her on good terms on comeback while Haien-KSU are in very strange position

So Hannah and Ye's official instagram team account has posted that they "have a big announcement to make tomorrow", fans (including yours truly) are praying that this means Ye finally got his citizenship
They’ve announced a go fund me for their road to Milano - implies to me that citizenship is possible/here? Otherwise they wouldn’t be crowd funding, I’d assume

I don't want to get my hopes up but Minsol appeared at Mokdong rink where Seoul NWSF qualifiers are taking place, and HeeYuHee (renowned fancam uploader)'s tweet says "Hoping to see (her) at Nationals next year in good health" which implies that she might take part in this season's Nationals? Which would mean that she isn't going to compete for Canada? She's only returned for a one-week temporary visit but...

This would be one relief in a season filled with pain, suffering, and confusion, but again I do not want to get my hopes up

Meanwhile Minchae and Heesue have withdrawn from said qualifiers, praying that they're without injuries
